We investigated the possibility of reducing the effect of precolumn band broadening (PreCBB) by sandwiching the sample between two small plugs of an immiscible liquid. It has been found that in cases of severe PreCBB, improvements in peak efficiency can amount up to 20 times for the early-eluting compounds. For smaller degrees of PreCBB, the gain on the efficiency of early-eluting compounds is smaller (order of 50%), yet it is still significant.

This study investigates the effects of supercritical CO as a foaming agent on structure and physical properties of hot melt extruded hydroxypropyl methylcellulose acetate succinate (HPMCAS)-itraconazole (ITZ) amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs) with the aim of improving the milling efficiency and tabletability of these ASDs. Two different grades of AFFINISOL HPMCAS, the standard grade (Std) and the High Productivity grade (HP) were used. The HP-grade has a lower molecular weight, melt viscosity and wider processing temperature range.

A novel high-throughout (HTR) ion-exchange (IEX) resin workflow has been developed for characterizing ion exchange equilibrium of commercial and experimental IEX resins against a range of different applications where water environment differs from site to site. Because of its much higher throughput, design of experiment (DOE) methodology can be easily applied for studying the effects of multiple factors on resin performance. Two case studies will be presented to illustrate the efficacy of the combined HTR workflow and DOE method.
