Purpose: To evaluate affected choroidal regions and corresponding retinal changes in acute and recurrent central serous chorioretinopathy using swept-source optical coherence tomography.

Methods: The foveal and subfoveal choroidal thicknesses were measured with swept-source optical coherence tomography. The retina was divided into five zones on the swept-source optical coherence tomography image based on baseline choroidal thickness being <100, 100-199, 200-299, 300-399 and ⩾400 μm.

Department of Cornea and Refractive Surgery, Medical Research Foundation, Sankara Nethralaya, 18 College Road, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

We report a rare case of deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) neovascularization managed with combination of subconjunctival bevacizumab and argon laser photocoagulation. A 24 year old male underwent Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty for corneal stromal opacity following presumed viral keratitis. Deep corneal neovascularization was observed postoperatively which was successfully managed using a combination of subconjunctival bevacizumab and argon laser photocoagulation within one week of DALK.

OCT angiography features of paracentral acute middle maculopathy.

Indian J Ophthalmol

March 2019

Shri Bhagwan Mahavir Vitreoretinal Services, Sankara Nethralaya, 18 College Road, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Paracentral acute middle maculopathy (PAMM) refers to retinal lesions with changes in the inner nuclear layer on spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT). PAMM is associated with retinal vascular pathology involving the deep capillary plexus. We report two cases of PAMM in Indian subjects using multimodal imaging highlighting the OCT angiography (OCTA) findings.

Utility of multicolor optic disc photography in evaluation of glaucomatous optic disc in myopic eyes: A novel approach.

Indian J Ophthalmol

March 2019

Retina Services, Aditya Birla Sankara Nethralaya 147 Mukundpur, E. M. Bypass, Kolkata, India.

Interpretation of optic disc cupping and neuroretinal rim is challenging in myopic eyes because of large, shallow, and tilted disc, myopic crescent, and macular degeneration. Color and red-free optic disc photographs do not reveal the cup/disc ratio often in myopic eyes. We report characteristics of multicolor optic disc photography in three myopic eyes.

Algorithmic approach to management of acute ocular chemical injuries-I's and E's of Management.

Ocul Surf

April 2019

CJ Shah Cornea Services/Dr G Sitalakshmi Memorial Clinic for Ocular Surface Disorders, Medical Research Foundation, Sankara Nethralaya, 18 College Road, Chennai, 600006, Tamil Nadu, India.

Ocular chemical injuries are associated with significant morbidity leading to vision loss and ocular surface damage. Appropriate management and intervention in the acute stage dictates the final outcome as well as the prognosis for visual rehabilitative procedures in chronic stage. Classifying the parameters to be addressed in the acute stage and providing an algorithmic approach for managing the alterations in each of them will facilitate the primary goal of ensuring epithelialization of the ocular surface.

Millions of people around the world suffer from retinal degenerative diseases at varying degrees of vision loss including, complete blindness that are caused by the damage to cells of the retina. The cell replacement therapy could be a promising tool in treating these conditions, since the stem/progenitor cells could be isolated form adult ciliary pigment epithelial cells and could be differentiated into retinal phenotypes in vitro and could be of great importance. The present study aims to identify the role of epigenetic regulators during cellular differentiation, which involves loss of pluripotency and gain of lineage and cell type-specific characteristics.
