Introduction: Thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) is an uncommon complication that may occur in cancer patients usually as an expression of cancer-associated coagulopathy or due to drug-related toxicity. The clinical spectrum of TMA may vary from an incidental laboratory finding in cancer outpatients to potentially severe life-threatening clinical forms with organ involvement requiring prompt recognition and multidisciplinary evaluation.
Case Reports: We present the clinical characteristics and outcomes of four patients with advanced pancreatic cancer with acute non-immune intravascular haemolysis compatible with microangiopathic acute haemolytic anaemia associated with mild thrombocytopenia during long-term gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel treatment.

Background: Because of the efficacy and good safety profile of antimalarials in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is currently recommended in all SLE patients. However, patients' compliance was reported as suboptimal. This study aims to elucidate the reasons for discontinuing antimalarials in a large series of SLE patients followed in a single centre during the last 50 years
Material And Methods: Among all patients diagnosed between 1968 and 2017 at our reference centre, retrospective data were obtained from electronic medical records of SLE patients consecutively visited during 2015-2017 and controlled for at least 1 year.

Outflow graft obstruction is a potentially catastrophic complication of left ventricular assist devices that may occur secondary to different mechanisms. Two cases of Heartmate 3 outflow graft obstruction associated with two different pathophysiological mechanisms are presented. The first one was a 70-year-old man who developed outflow graft obstruction secondary to kinking.

Background: Ablative treatment of intra-anal high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) reduces the risk of progression to anal squamous cell carcinoma. Our objective was to assess the short-term effectiveness and tolerability of the carbon dioxide laser for treating intra-anal HSIL in patients at high risk of anal cancer.
Methods: This is an exploratory, pilot, single-arm, clinical trial of treatment response for anal HSIL in people living with HIV diagnosed with ≤3 not previously treated HSILs.

A superior sinus venosus atrial septal defect and partial anomalous pulmonary venous connection was corrected by a minimally invasive approach by permanently ligating the superior vena cava and a single pericardial patch for rerouting the flow through the enlarged interatrial communication. The patient had persistency of the left superior vena cava draining in the coronary sinus but no innominate vein. This anatomy poses a risk of developing right-sided superior vena cava syndrome.

Center-involving diabetic macular edema (DME) is a leading cause of vision impairment in working-age adults. While its management is particularly challenging in a poorly compliant population, continuous innovation and the advent of new molecules have improved its outcome. The control of glycemia and of systemic aggravating factors remain essential to slow down progression of disease complications including DME.

Purpose: To assess agreement between corneal aberration measurements made through swept-source optical coherence tomography using a new anterior segment imaging device (Anterion) and a Scheimpflug imaging device (Pentacam HR) in healthy subjects.
Methods: Cross-sectional study. In 50 eyes of 50 healthy subjects, 14 aberration parameters (7 across the anterior corneal surface and 7 across the total surface) were measured in 4 mm and 6 mm optic zones using each device: oblique trefoil (Z3_-3), vertical coma (Z3_-1), horizontal coma (Z3_1), horizontal trefoil (Z3_3), spherical aberration (Z4_0), root mean square (RMS) lower order aberrations (LOA) and RMS higher order aberrations (HOA).

Objectives: Septal myectomy remains the gold standard treatment for symptomatic left ventricular outflow tract obstruction refractory to medical treatment. It is recommended that this operation be performed in dedicated hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy centres by experienced surgeons. The septal myectomy option remains unavailable to many patients based solely on geography, including those who would clearly benefit more substantially from surgery than other therapeutic options.

Background: Ablative treatment of anal high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) reduces the risk of progression to anal squamous cell carcinoma.
Objectives: To identify factors that influence the response to treatment of anal HSIL by electrocautery ablation (ECA) in a population of HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM).
Design: Retrospective study of ECA treatment response in a prospectively followed anal dysplasia cohort.

The full impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is yet to be well established; however, as the pandemic spreads, and early results emerge, unmet needs are being revealed, and pressing questions are being asked about who is most affected, how, where, and in what ways government responses might be exacerbating inequalities. A number of scholars have called for more in-depth critical research on COVID-19 and health inequalities to produce a strong empirical evidence based on these issues. There are also justifiable concerns about the scarcity of health-equity actions oriented analyses of the situation and calls for more empirical evidence on COVID-19 and health inequalities.
