Excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) among adolescents poses significant risks to academic performance, mental health, and overall well-being. This study examines the prevalence and risk factors of EDS in adolescents in Bangladesh and utilizes machine learning approaches to predict the risk of EDS. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 1496 adolescents using a structured questionnaire.

Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) is a useful technique for detecting infectious microorganisms in human fluids since it performs similarly to conventional PCR, the results are obtained faster and no thermocyclers or complex devices are required. Since only two isothermal blocks (95 °C to lyse cells and 65 °C for DNA amplification) are needed, LAMP is particularly suited for applications in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). To validate such assumption, we first designed and tested Arduino-controlled LAMP thermoblocks to process a considerable number of samples simultaneously with a low-energy consumption to enable routine use under worst-case conditions (no main power source and low ambient temperatures).

In this narrative review, we present a comprehensive assessment on the putative roles of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in intermittent hypoxia (IH) and sleep apnea. Collectively, the evidence from cell culture, animal, and clinical research studies points to the functional involvement of lncRNAs in the pathogenesis, diagnosis, and potential treatment strategies for this highly prevalent disorder. Further research is clearly warranted to uncover the mechanistic pathways and to exploit the therapeutic potential of lncRNAs, thereby improving the management and outcomes of patients suffering from sleep apnea.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a prevalent respiratory condition in children and is characterized by partial or complete obstruction of the upper airway during sleep. The respiratory events in OSA induce transient alterations of the cardiovascular system that ultimately can lead to increased cardiovascular risk in affected children. Therefore, a timely and accurate diagnosis is of utmost importance.

Automatic deep-learning models used for sleep scoring in children with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are perceived as black boxes, limiting their implementation in clinical settings. Accordingly, we aimed to develop an accurate and interpretable deep-learning model for sleep staging in children using single-channel electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings. We used EEG signals from the Childhood Adenotonsillectomy Trial (CHAT) dataset (n = 1637) and a clinical sleep database (n = 980).

Purpose: to compare immediate post-operative pain and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) after partial meniscectomy with needle (NA) vs. standard (SA) arthroscopy technique.
Methods: A retrospective review of a consecutive series of patients who underwent partial meniscectomy before and after adoption of a needle arthroscopic technique was performed.

Purpose: We present a case of misdiagnosed fungal keratitis due to a bilateral nummular presentation.
Observations: A 41-year-old female patient, contact lens wearer, presented initially at an optometrist with acute bilateral blurred vision and photophobia. She was found on exam to have multiple round stromal infiltrates bilaterally.

Introduction: Smartphone app-based goniometer (SG) are emerging as an alternative to Universal Goniometers (UG) in assessing joint range of motion (ROM). This study examined whether the experience level of examiner affected the reliability of assessing knee flexion (KF) and knee extension (KE) ROM using UG and SG.
Methods: Participants with osteoarthritis of the knee or following total knee replacement were recruited.

Addition To Orthopedic Literature: Posterolateral knee dislocations are extremely rare and generally require open reduction; however, we were able to provide closed reduction by reproducing mechanism of injury with a technique described in the literature. This is the second reported case of such accomplishment.
Introduction: Posterolateral knee dislocation is the most common form of "irreducible" knee dislocations.

The emergence of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic presents an unprecedented health communications challenge. Healthcare providers should reinforce behaviors that limit the spread of the pandemic, including social distancing and remaining in the home whenever possible. Formal communications toolkits may not be prepared in a timely fashion.

Community health workers (CHWs) can improve patients' health by providing them with ongoing behavioral support during the health care experience, and they help decrease health care costs, especially among patients whose starting costs are high and among underserved and minority populations. We developed a CHW-based care model with the aim of improving outcomes and lowering costs for high-risk diabetes patients in rural Appalachia. Enrolled patients experienced a mean decrease in HbA of 2.

Cutaneous side effects due to ixazomib have been documented in the literature; however, cutaneous necrotizing vasculitis is extremely rare. We describe a case of a 74-year-old man with relapsed multiple myeloma who was started on ixazomib, lenalidomide, and dexamethasone.

This article contains supporting data for the research paper entitled: Dietary walnut altered gene expressions related to tumor growth, survival, and metastasis in breast cancer patients: a pilot clinical trial' [1] Hardman et al., 2019. Included are tables for all mapped genes and all unmapped loci identifications that were significantly changed in breast cancers by consumption of walnut for about 2 weeks.

Background: Upper gastrointestinal (UGI) malignancies including esophageal, gastroesophageal junction (GEJ), and gastric cancers have a poor prognosis in the metastatic setting. Treatment with cytotoxic chemotherapy remains the treatment of choice in the first-line setting with the addition of trastuzumab, a monoclonal antibody against HER-2, if the tumor is HER2-positive. Before the era of checkpoint inhibitors, there were only few treatment options after failure of the first-line systemic therapy.

Consumption of walnuts has slowed breast cancer growth and/or reduced the risk of mammary cancer in mice. The benefit against cancer was associated with altered expression of genes for cancer growth and survival. We hypothesized that walnut consumption would alter gene expression in pathologically confirmed breast cancers of women in a direction that would be expected to decrease breast cancer growth and survival, as was seen in mice.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)/small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) is a hematologic malignancy characterized by an over accumulation of incompetent neoplastic lymphocytes. Bone metastasis in CLL/SLL is very rare. We report a case of a 76-year-old Caucasian female presented with an unresolving pulmonary infiltrate with mediastinal lymphadenopathy concerning for malignancy.

Breast cancer can be classified based on the expression or lack of expression of protein receptors including estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and human epidermal growth receptor 2 (Her2). The basal molecular subtype is mostly made up of breast cancers that do not express ER/PR or Her2, triple-negative breast cancers (TNBC) (Bertucci et al. in Int J Cancer 123(1):236, 2008).

Somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEPs) are used for neuroprognosis after severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). However decompressive craniectomy (DC), involving removal of a portion of the skull to alleviate elevated intracranial pressure, is associated with an increase in SSEP amplitude. Accordingly, SSEPs are not available for neuroprognosis over the hemisphere with DC.

At present there is no therapy for Alzheimer's Disease which completely stops the progressive dementia effecting late onset Alzheimer's Disease (AD) patients. It is felt that the main reason for this failure is that AD appears to be a disease caused by four major pathological processes. To date, efforts to develop treatments have addressed only one or another of these four etiologies.
