A qualitative exploration of women's expectations of birth and knowledge of birth interventions following antenatal education.

BMC Pregnancy Childbirth

December 2024

Academic Women's Health Unit, Bristol Medical School, University of Bristol, 5 Tyndall Avenue, Bristol, BS8 1UD, UK.

Background: Expectations of birth, and whether they are met, influence postnatal psychological wellbeing. Intrapartum interventions, for example induction of labour, are increasing due to a changing pregnant population and evolving evidence, which may contribute to a mismatch between expectations and birth experience. NICE recommends antenatal education (ANE) to prepare women for labour and birth, but there is no mandated UK National Health Service (NHS) ANE curriculum.

Machine Learning for Predicting Zearalenone Contamination Levels in Pet Food.

Toxins (Basel)

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Feed Biotechnology, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Institute of Feed Research, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, No. 12 Zhongguancun South Street, Beijing 100081, China.

Zearalenone (ZEN) has been detected in both pet food ingredients and final products, causing acute toxicity and chronic health problems in pets. Therefore, the early detection of mycotoxin contamination in pet food is crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of animals. This study aims to develop a rapid and cost-effective method using an electronic nose (E-nose) and machine learning algorithms to predict whether ZEN levels in pet food exceed the regulatory limits (250 µg/kg), as set by Chinese pet food legislation.

Aim: From 2015 to 2018, the 'Hospital-Acquired Pressure Injury (HAPI)' project was implemented in one local health district in Australia and utilised an implementation science approach to address rising pressure injury (PI) incidence and prevalence rates. This paper aims to examine whether the project was successful in sustaining low PI incidence and prevalence rates over the five-years following implementation (spanning the 2018/2019 to 2022/2023 financial years and the 2019-2023 calendar years).

Materials And Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted involving a comprehensive analysis of HAPI incidence, prevalence, and hospital-acquired complication (HAC) data spanning 5 years (incidence and HAC: 2018/2019 to 2022/2023 financial years; prevalence: January 2019 to December 2023 calendar years) post-implementation of the HAPI project.

In this study, we introduce an synthesis technique for incorporating gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) into a magnetic nanocomposite made of glucosamine and alginate (GluN/Alg) ionotropic gelation. GluN acted as a reducing agent for gold ions, leading to the formation of AuNPs which embedded in the nanocomposite FeO@GluN/Alg. Analytical techniques confirmed the crystallite structure of the nanocomposite AuNPs/FeO@GluN/Alg, which had an average size of 30-40 nm.

Chiral effects at the metal center in Fe(III) spin crossover coordination salts.

J Phys Condens Matter

December 2024

Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Jorgenesen Hall, 855 North 16th Street, Lincoln, Nebraska, 68588-0299, UNITED STATES.

Evidence of chirality was observed at the Fe metal center in Fe(III) spin crossover coordination salts [Fe(qsal)Ni(dmit)] and [Fe(qsal)(TCNQ)] from X-ray absorption spectroscopy at the Fe 2pcore threshold. Based on the circularly polarized X-ray absorption data, the X-ray natural circular dichroism seen [Fe(qsal)Ni(dmit)] and [Fe(qsal)(TCNQ)] is far stronger than seen for [Fe(qsal)Cl] suggesting this natural circular dichroism signature is a ligand effect rather than a result of just a loss of octahedral symmetry on the Fe core. The larger the chiral effects in the Fe 2p core to bound X-ray absorption, the greater the perturbation of the Fe 2pto 2pspin-orbit splitting seen in the X-ray absorption spectra.

Cortical activations in cognitive task performance at multiple frequency bands.

Cereb Cortex

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning, Beijing Normal University, No. 19, Xinjiekouwai Street, Haidian District, Beijing 100875, China.

Neural oscillations are fundamental for brain function and govern various cognitive processes. Recent functional magnetic resonance imaging advances offer the opportunity to study frequency-specific properties of blood-oxygen-level-dependent oscillations at multiple frequency bands. However, most have focused on spontaneous brain activity in the resting state, leaving a gap in direct evidence regarding the specific activations of cognitive tasks across different frequency bands.
