Financial Contributions and Experiences of Non-Spousal, Employed Family Caregivers.

The economic impacts of caring for an older adult may be amplified for employed family and unpaid caregivers. We examine out-of-pocket spending among employed, retired, and unemployed caregivers. Among employed caregivers, we identify correlates of spending and assess whether spending and work productivity loss contribute to financial burden.

Addressing Schooling in Children With Cancer-It's Everybody's Job, So It's Nobody's Job: An Explanatory Mixed-Methods Evaluation.

Neurocognitive deficits from childhood cancer treatment are common, long-standing, and negatively impact multiple domains of life leading to challenges with schooling and education. The purpose of this study is to describe caregiver-reported experiences of neurocognitive effects from therapy and to understand the roles clinicians play in this domain in the United States. An explanatory mixed-methods study of 174 caregivers of children with cancer provided insight into how clinicians provided information on neurocognitive effects of treatment and their experiences with school-related resources.

Transcending inequities in dementia care in Black communities: Lessons from the maximizing independence at home care coordination program.

Purpose: We examine care partners' experience of the Maximizing Independence at Home (MIND) intervention, a multicomponent, home-based dementia care coordination program designed to provide high quality, wholistic care coordination for people and families living with dementia. "It All Depends": Patient and Decision Partner Experiences in Cancer Clinical Trial Decision-Making.

While the supporting role of families and friends has been widely recognized in cancer care, little data exist on how they influence patients' decisions regarding clinical trial participation, accounting for patients' decisional preferences. The goal of our study was to examine the process of clinical trial decision-making from the perspective of adults with cancer and their decision partners. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 patients and 12 decision partners-family and friends engaged in the medical decision-making.

Social Isolation and Falls Risk: Lack of Social Contacts Decreases the Likelihood of Bathroom Modification Among Older Adults With Fear of Falling.

Fall prevention strategies exist, but little is known about factors that influence whether they are used. We assessed whether social isolation modifies the association between fear of falling (FOF) and bathroom environmental modification. Data were included from 2858 Medicare beneficiaries in the National Health and Aging Trends Study.

Reflections of Hospice Staff Members About Educating Hospice Family Caregivers Through Telenovela.

Objective: Hospice family caregivers are seeking additional information related to patient care, pain and symptom management, and self-care. This study interviewed hospice staff about the potential dissemination of bilingual telenovelas to address these caregiver needs.

Methods: Qualitative structured phone interviews were conducted with 22 hospice professionals from 17 different hospice organizations in 3 different Midwest states.
