Background: Few studies exist to describe the characteristics of symptomatic syphilitic meningitis, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, despite a global resurgence.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of a cohort of adults with meningitis presenting to Zambia's largest referral hospital between April 2014 and December 2017. Individuals with pyogenic bacterial and cryptococcal meningitis were excluded from this cohort.

Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are at an elevated risk for certain cancers compared to the population at large. Cancers seen at higher rates in the SLE population include hematologic malignancies, such as non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and cancers of the lung and thyroid. SLE patients also have a decreased risk for certain malignancies, such as breast cancer, melanoma, and prostate cancer.

Aim: To examine the relationship between falls among high-risk older adults at one Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) and the COVID-19 closure of its Day Health Center (DHC), which provides participants with social and rehabilitative services and contributes to their weekly physical activity.

Methods: Self-reported falls during the 3 months before the DHC's closure ("pre-COVID-19") were compared in number and in character to falls during its closure ("COVID-19").

Results: One thirty five participants were enrolled during the entire 6-month period; 37% ( = 50) fell during this time.

Background: Testosterone replacement therapies may increase blood pressure (BP) with chronic use but the mechanism is not clear. TLANDO™ is a new oral testosterone undecanoate (TU) under development for the treatment of male hypogonadism.

Methods: We studied the effects of the TU at 225 mg twice daily on ambulatory BP (ABP) and heart rate, in 138 men with hypogonadism (mean age, 54 years, 79% white, 48% with hypertension).

Objective: Anemia is common during critical illness and often persists after hospital discharge; however, its potential association with physical outcomes after critical illness is unclear. Our objective was to assess the associations between hemoglobin at intensive care unit (ICU) and hospital discharge with physical status at 3-month follow-up in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) survivors.

Methods: This is a secondary analysis of a multisite prospective cohort study of 195 mechanically ventilated ARDS survivors from 13 ICUs at 4 teaching hospitals in Baltimore, Maryland.
