Dependency Theory: An Evaluation of the Period-Based Changes in the Utilization of Maternal Health Care and Neonatal Mortality in Tanzania Between 1991 and 2016.

While efforts have been made to increase maternal health care (MHC) utilization and decrease neonatal mortality in Tanzania, much remains to be known about the effect of dependency (particularly on reproductive policy changes) on the use of MHC and neonatal health over time among varying socioeconomic groups. This study applied dependency theory to cross-sectional secondary data (collected by the Tanzania Demographic Health Surveys between 1991 and 2016) to investigate period-based changes in MHC and neonatal mortalities in Tanzania. Results from the data analysis found that while neonatal mortalities were decreasing in Tanzania (from 1991 to 2016), the odds of neonatal mortality were still greater in 2016.

Characteristics of Asian American Family Caregivers of Older Adults Compared to Caregivers of Other Racial/Ethnic Groups: Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System 2015-2020.

Asian Americans (AAs) are the fastest-growing racial/ethnic minority group in the United States. While otherwise highly heterogeneous, AAs overall value filial piety and eldercare. This study compared the health and caregiving experiences of AA caregivers of older adults to AA non-caregivers and caregivers of older adults across racial/ethnic groups.

Understanding Challenges and Coping Strategies Experienced by Chinese American Family Caregivers of Persons with Dementia.

The purpose of this study was to explore the caregiving experience of Chinese American family caregivers of persons with dementia with a focus on challenges and coping strategies. Using a qualitative study design, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 26 Chinese American family caregivers and analyzed the data using thematic analysis. We also identified their caregiving experience specific to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leisure Activities and Depressive Symptoms among Older Men and Women in Mexico: Implications of Physical Health.

Objectives: This study investigated whether the effects of specific types of group and individual leisure activities on depressive symptoms differ for older men and women in Mexico and whether several indicators of physical health can shape the psychological benefits of these activities.

Methods: This study used data from two waves (2012 and 2015) of the Mexican Health and Aging Study and employed OLS regressions.

Leveraging Public-Private Partnerships During COVID-19: Providing Virtual Field Opportunities for Student Learners and Addressing Social Isolation in Older Adults.

While preventive and management measures are important to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, strategies like social distancing can have devastating effects on older adults who are already at risk for social isolation and loneliness. In response, two Colleges of Health Professions (Social Work and Nursing) at a large public University leveraged a partnership with a national health and wellbeing company to address social isolation and loneliness in Houston area older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. This intergenerational linkage initiative involved 707 older adults and 177 graduate social work and nursing students.

The Correlation Between Visibility and Medical Staff Collaborative Communication in Emergency Departments.

Objectives: This study empirically investigates the correlation between visibility and nurses and physicians' collaborative communication in emergency departments (EDs). The researchers hypothesized that higher visibility levels in EDs are associated with higher collaborative communication among nurses and physicians.

Background: The review of related literature addresses the role of communication in EDs, and more specifically, how visibility has been found to affect nurse and physician behavior in healthcare facilities.

Aztreonam, Ceftazidime/Avibactam, and Colistin Combination for the Management of Carbapenemase-Producing Bacteremia: A Case Report.

Purpose: A case of a patient with sepsis from a urinary source due to carbapenemase-producing treated with a novel combination of aztreonam, ceftazidime/avibactam, and colistin is described. An 80-year-old South Asian male presented to the hospital with sepsis from a urinary source. Blood and urine cultures were positive for a carbapenemase-producing sensitive only to colistin and tigecycline.
