Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Patients With Idiopathic Subglottic Stenosis.

Objectives: To determine the number of patients with idiopathic subglottic stenosis (iSGS) who have contracted coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the impact of the pandemic on patients' attitudes on seeking help and attending hospitals, as well as the delays in the offer of treatment from the local health care systems.

Methods: A 29-question survey was distributed to an international mailing list of patients with subglottic stenosis to assess the patient experience during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Results: A total of 543 patients with iSGS participated.

Cricopharyngeal spasm and pharyngeal pouch can result in severe dysphagia symptoms that can have a significant impact on a patient's quality of life. Several surgical interventions have been demonstrated including balloon dilatation, botox injection, and open and endoscopic cricopharyngeal myotomy. The aim of this case series is to describe our technique for endoscopic cricopharyngeal myotomy and compare pre- and postoperative swallowing outcomes using objective swallowing questionnaires in a small series of patients.

Extramedullary plasmacytomas represent a rare group of B-cell malignancies that arise outside the bone marrow and their disease process is still poorly understood. Here, we will describe a case of a 76-year-old patient who presented with a large chest wall and subglottic mass causing airway compromise and stridor. Biopsies showed atypical plasma cells with prominent nucleoli which were in keeping with an extramedullary plasmacytoma.
