5-Lipoxygenase Contributes to Benzo[a]pyrene-Induced Cytotoxicity and DNA Damage in Human Bronchial Epithelial Cells.

Int J Toxicol

February 2023

Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, Xiangya School of Public Health, 12570Central South University, Changsha, China.

Metabolic activation of indirect-acting carcinogens in target organs is a recognized mechanism of carcinogenesis. This study aimed to determine the role of benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) metabolism enzymes lipoxygenase (LOX), cytochrome P4501A1 (CYP1A1), and prostaglandin synthetase (PGS) in the cytotoxicity and DNA damage induced by BaP in the human tracheobronchial epithelial cells (HBECs) using RNA interference strategy and metabolic enzyme inhibitors. Our results showed that in three epithelial cell lines (HBE, HTR-8/SVneo, and HaCat), BaP significantly upregulated 5-LOX protein expression.

ARL4C depletion suppresses the resistance of ovarian cancer to carboplatin by disrupting cholesterol transport and autophagy notch-RBP-Jκ-H3K4Me3-OSBPL5.

Hum Exp Toxicol

November 2022

Department of Gynecologic Oncology Ward 5, Hunan Cancer Hospital, the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Xiangya School of Medicine, 12570Central South University, Changsha, China.

Increasing studies indicate that cholesterol plays an important role in drug resistance. ARL4C is implicated in the export and import of cholesterol, therefore this study aimed to explore the effect of ARL4C on the resistance of ovarian cancer (OVC) to Carboplatin. This study collected OVC tissue samples from patients who are sensitive or resistant to carboplatin, and established Carboplatin-resistant OVC cell lines, OVCAR3(R) and SKOV3(R) using OVCAR3 and SKOV3.

Antagonism of m3 Alleviates Type 2 Inflammation in Allergic Rhinitis Mice.

Am J Rhinol Allergy

May 2023

Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head Neck Surgery, Third Xiangya Hospital, 12570Central South University, Changsha, China.

Background: Type 2 immune cells play a pivotal role in allergic rhinitis (AR). Increasing evidence shows that inhibition of cholinergic nerve activity decreases the severity of airway diseases including asthma and AR. However, the role of the cholinergic receptor muscarinic 3 (m3) in type 2 inflammation in AR is unknown.

Background: Existing state-of-the-art "safe zone" prediction methods are statistics-based methods, image-matching techniques, and machine learning methods. Yet, those methods bring a tension between accuracy and interpretability.

Purpose: To explore the model explanations and estimator consensus for "safe zone" prediction.

Objectives: We hope to identify key molecules that can be used as markers of asthma severity and investigate their correlation with immune cell infiltration in severe asthma.

Methods: An asthma dataset was downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database and then processed by R software to obtain differentially expressed genes (DEGs). First, multiple enrichment platforms were applied to analyze crucial biological processes and pathways and protein-protein interaction networks related to the DEGs.

Background: Nucleolin has multiple functions within cell survival and proliferation pathways. Our previous studies have revealed that nucleolin can significantly reduce myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury by promoting myocardial angiogenesis and reducing myocardial apoptosis. In this study, we attempted to determine the role of nucleolin in myocardial infarction (MI) injury recovery and the underlying mechanism.

Extraosseous Ewing Sarcoma of the Cervical Esophagus: Case Report and Literature Review.

Ear Nose Throat J

June 2022

Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, The Second Xiangya Hospital, 12570Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, People's Republic of China.

This study presents a case of Extraosseous Ewing sarcoma arising in the cervical esophagus of a 36-year-old woman who presented with cervical mass and dysphagia. Imaging studies demonstrated a well-defined, cystic-solid mass in the neck extending into the upper mediastinum, which results in deviation of the trachea and esophagus. The relationship between the tumor and the cervical esophagus was found in the operation.

Symptom Score: A New Instrument to Assess Orthostatic Intolerance in Children and Adolescents.

J Child Neurol

October 2020

Department of Pediatric Cardiovasology, Children's Medical Center, The Second Xiangya Hospital, 12570Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, China.

Objective: To develop an orthostatic intolerance symptom scoring system to assess orthostatic intolerance and then to compare the symptom score among different head-up tilt test responses.

Methods: 272 subjects (5-18 years) presenting with orthostatic intolerance symptoms finished questionnaire and head-up tilt test. According to head-up tilt test hemodynamic responses, the subjects were divided into head-up tilt test negative, vasovagal syncope, and postural tachycardia syndrome groups.
