This study assesses the extent to which the association between erythrocyte sedimentation rate, a marker of inflammation, and cognitive function is explained by shared familial factors using within-sibling analyses. Men who were born in Sweden between 1950 and 1965 and recorded in the Swedish Military Conscription Register between 1969 and 1983 were included ( = 632,396). Erythrocyte sedimentation rate and cognitive function were measured at the conscription assessment (median age = 18.

At present, commercial artificial biological valves are mostly prepared by crosslinking bovine or porcine pericardia with glutaraldehyde. Swim bladder has similar components and lower immunogenicity compared to bovine or porcine pericardium. In this study, we used a glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)-based radical polymerization method to crosslink decellularized swim bladders.

In recent years, a growing number of researchers have attempted to overcome the constraints of size and scope in different medical studies to find out the overall treatment effects. As a widespread technique to combine results of multiple studies, commonly used meta-analytic approaches for continuous outcomes demand sample means and standard deviations of primary studies, which are absent sometimes, especially when the outcome is skewed. Instead, the median, the extrema, and/or the quartiles are reported.

Background: We explored the influence of low-dose intravenous alteplase and intensive blood pressure lowering on outcomes of acute ischemic stroke according to status/location of vascular obstruction in participants of the Enhanced Control of Hypertension and Thrombolysis Stroke Study (ENCHANTED).

Methods: ENCHANTED was a multicenter, quasi-factorial, randomized trial to determine efficacy and safety of low- versus standard-dose intravenous alteplase and intensive- versus guideline-recommended blood pressure lowering in acute ischemic stroke patients. In those who had baseline computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging angiography, the degree of vascular occlusion was grouped according to being no (NVO), medium (MVO), or large (LVO).
