Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers created a database from various sources and used ecological niche modeling with 15 Bioclimatic variables to project the tick's distribution for three different time periods: Last Glacial Maximum, Current, and 2050.
  • * The findings show that A. mixtum has a high occurrence probability along the Gulf of Mexico, with new invasion risks identified along the Mexico-Guatemala-Belize border, and that ecological modeling is crucial for developing future control and surveillance strategies.

Localization of function in anterior cingulate cortex: from psychosurgery to functional neuroimaging.

Department of Psychology, University of Texas-Pan American, 1201W. University Drive, Edinburg, TX 78541, USA.

Early localizationists linked anterior cingulate cortex (ACC: Brodmann's area 24 and adjacent regions) with emotional behavior, paving the way for bilateral cingulotomy psychosurgery in severe, treatment resistant, cases of obsessive-compulsive disorder, chronic pain, depression, and substance abuse. Neuropsychological follow-up of such cases demonstrated executive function impairment. Abnormal neuroimaged activity in ACC has been found in many psychiatric conditions, including obsessive-compulsive disorder, chronic pain, substance abuse, and schizophrenia.
