Ten compounds, six extracts and five fractions obtained from three Nigerian plants were assayed for their in vitro antitrypanosomal and antileishmanial activities. Mass-drug administration (MDA) of human populations using praziquantel monotherapy has become the primary strategy for controlling and potentially eliminating the major neglected tropical disease schistosomiasis. To understand how long-term MDA impacts schistosome populations, we analysed whole-genome sequence data of 570 samples (and the closely related outgroup species, from eight countries incorporating both publicly-available sequence data and new parasite material. This revealed broad-scale genetic structure across countries but with extensive transmission over hundreds of kilometres.

Enhanced CCR2 expression by ACKR2-deficient NK cells increases tumoricidal cell therapy efficacy.

Chemokines regulate leukocyte navigation to inflamed sites and specific tissue locales and may therefore be useful for ensuring accurate homing of cell therapeutic products. We, and others, have shown that atypical chemokine receptor 2 (ACKR2)-deficient mice (ACKR2-/-) are protected from metastasis development in cell line and spontaneous mouse models. We have shown that this relates to enhanced CCR2 expression on ACKR2-/- natural killer cells, allowing them to home more effectively to CCR2 ligand-expressing metastatic deposits.

Trans and non-binary older adults living with dementia experience forms of marginalization, pathologization, and discrimination embedded in epistemic violence that leads them to be mistreated and dismissed as knowledgeable subjects. Based on empirical findings from a Canadian study examining the experiences of trans and non-binary people living with dementia and their carers, we combat this epistemic violence by focusing on the first-hand narratives of this population and their carers. Narrative interviews were conducted with six participants (N = 6): four carers of trans and non-binary adults living with dementia and two trans (binary) people living with dementia.

ACKR3 scavenges and degrades the stem cell recruiting chemokine CXCL12, which is essential for proper embryonic and, in particular, haematopoietic development. Here, we demonstrate strong expression of ACKR3 on trophoblasts. Using a maternally administered pharmacological blocker and Cre-mediated genetic approaches, we demonstrate that trophoblast ACKR3 is essential for preventing movement of CXCL12 from the mother to the embryo, with elevated plasma CXCL12 levels being detected in embryos from ACKR3-blocker-treated mothers.
