Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases CYP120As are the unique non-membrane P450s, which are extensively involved in retinoid biodegradation. As the O-functionalized 1,3,3-trimethylcyclohex-1-ene moiety exists in many bioactive compounds which could only be catalyzed by Class II P450s, exploration of the catalytic repertoire of CYP120As is therefore highly attractive. However, up to date, only one bacteriogenic candidate (CYP120A1) was demonstrated for the hydroxylation of C16 and C17 of retinoic acid, by utilizing the integral membrane protein cytochrome P450 reductase redox partner for the electron transfer.

The pantropical fern genus Didymochlaena (Didymochlaenaceae) has long been considered to contain one species only. Recent studies have resolved this genus/family as either sister to the rest of eupolypods I or as the second branching lineage of eupolypods I, and have shown that this genus is not monospecific, but the exact species diversity is unknown. In this study, a new phylogeny is reconstructed based on an expanded taxon sampling and six molecular markers.

The following family of ,-diaryl-2,3-dimethyl-1,4-diazabutadienes, ArN[double bond, length as m-dash]C(Me)C(Me)[double bond, length as m-dash]NAr (Ar = 2,6-Me-4-{CH(4-FCH)}CHL1, 2-Me-6-Et-4-{CH(4-FCH)}CHL2, 2,4-{CH(4-FCH)}-6-MeCHL3, 2,4-{CH(4-FCH)}-6-EtCHL4, 2,4-{CH(4-FCH)}-6-iPrCHL5), each incorporating -substituted 4,4-difluorobenzhydryl groups but differing in the -pairing, have been synthesized and used as precursors to their respective nickel(ii) bromide complexes, Ni1-Ni5. Compound characterization has been achieved through a combination of FT-IR, multinuclear NMR spectroscopy (H, C, F) and elemental analysis. In addition, L1, Ni1 and Ni5 have been structurally characterized with Ni1 and Ni5 revealing similarly distorted tetrahedral geometries about nickel but with distinct differences in the steric protection offered by the -substituents.

A complex interplay of genetic and environmental risk factors influence global brain structural alterations associated with brain health and disease. Epigenome-wide association studies (EWAS) of global brain imaging phenotypes have the potential to reveal the mechanisms of brain health and disease and can lead to better predictive analytics through the development of risk scores. We perform an EWAS of global brain volumes in Generation Scotland using peripherally measured whole blood DNA methylation (DNAm) from two assessments, (i) at baseline recruitment, ~6 years prior to MRI assessment (N = 672) and (ii) concurrent with MRI assessment (N=565).

Consistent with the emotional cycle of deployment, postdeployment reintegration is often a time of highs and lows as service members (SMs) and their families adjust to their new normal. However, few studies have considered the nuances of reintegration, specifically the various patterns of personal and family reintegration experiences that may exist. The present study uses latent profile analysis to identify unique reintegration patterns along four dimensions (i.

Type I interferons are a subset of cytokines playing central roles in host antiviral defense, and their effects depend on the interaction with the heterodimeric receptor complex. Surprisingly, two pairs of the receptor subunits, CRFB1 and CRFB5, and CRFB2 and CRFB5, have been identified in fish, but the studies about preferential receptor usage of different fish IFN subtypes are rather limited. In this study, the three receptor chains of type I IFNs named as On-CRFB1, On-CRFB2 and On-CRFB5 were identified in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus.

8-Hydroxyquinolines (8HQs) are a family of lipophilic metal ion chelators that have been used in a range of analytical and pharmaceutical applications over the last 100 years. More recently, CQ (clioquinol; 5-chloro-7-iodo-8-hydroxyquinoline) and PBT2 (5,7-dichloro-2-[(dimethylamino)methyl]-8-hydroxyquinoline) have undergone clinical trials for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease. Because CQ and PBT2 appear to redistribute metals into cells, these compounds have been redefined as copper and zinc ionophores.
