Prokaryotic expression and characterization of artificial self-sufficient CYP120A monooxygenases.

Appl Microbiol Biotechnol

September 2023

State Key Laboratory of Bioreactor Engineering, Shanghai Collaborative Innovation Centre for Biomanufacturing, College of Biotechnology, East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai, 200237, People's Republic of China.

Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases CYP120As are the unique non-membrane P450s, which are extensively involved in retinoid biodegradation. As the O-functionalized 1,3,3-trimethylcyclohex-1-ene moiety exists in many bioactive compounds which could only be catalyzed by Class II P450s, exploration of the catalytic repertoire of CYP120As is therefore highly attractive. However, up to date, only one bacteriogenic candidate (CYP120A1) was demonstrated for the hydroxylation of C16 and C17 of retinoic acid, by utilizing the integral membrane protein cytochrome P450 reductase redox partner for the electron transfer.

The pantropical fern genus Didymochlaena (Didymochlaenaceae) has long been considered to contain one species only. Recent studies have resolved this genus/family as either sister to the rest of eupolypods I or as the second branching lineage of eupolypods I, and have shown that this genus is not monospecific, but the exact species diversity is unknown. In this study, a new phylogeny is reconstructed based on an expanded taxon sampling and six molecular markers.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how variations in lipid metabolism genes can predict outcomes for metastatic colorectal cancer patients treated with antiangiogenic drugs like bevacizumab.
  • Patients with certain genetic variants (specifically the rs4485435 C allele) show significantly shorter progression-free survival compared to those without this variant, indicating a potential biomarker for treatment response.
  • The findings were corroborated in a separate validation cohort, further highlighting the importance of lipid metabolism in cancer treatment outcomes, though no such association was found in patients treated with a different drug (cetuximab).

Identification and characterization of tilapia CRFB1, CRFB2 and CRFB5 reveals preferential receptor usage of three IFN subtypes in perciform fishes.

Fish Shellfish Immunol

December 2020

State Key Laboratory of Freshwater Ecology and Biotechnology, Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wuhan, 430072, China. Electronic address:

Type I interferons are a subset of cytokines playing central roles in host antiviral defense, and their effects depend on the interaction with the heterodimeric receptor complex. Surprisingly, two pairs of the receptor subunits, CRFB1 and CRFB5, and CRFB2 and CRFB5, have been identified in fish, but the studies about preferential receptor usage of different fish IFN subtypes are rather limited. In this study, the three receptor chains of type I IFNs named as On-CRFB1, On-CRFB2 and On-CRFB5 were identified in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus.
