Cationic hyperbranched polymers (HBP) were prepared by self-condensing vinyl polymerization of an atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) inimer containing a quaternary ammonium group. Two types of biocompatible shells, poly(oligoethylene glycol) methacrylate (polyOEGMA) and poly(2-(methylsulfinyl) ethyl methacrylate) (polyDMSO), were grafted respectively from HBP core to form core-shell structures with low molecular weight dispersity and high biocompatibility, polyOEGMA-HBP and polyDMSO-HBP. Both of the structures showed low cytotoxicity and good siRNA complexing ability.

The periodontium, consisting of gingiva, periodontal ligament, cementum, and alveolar bone, is a hierarchically organized tissue whose primary role is to provide physical and mechanical support to the teeth. Severe cases of periodontitis, an inflammatory condition initiated by an oral bacterial biofilm, can lead to significant destruction of soft and hard tissues of the periodontium and result in compromised dental function and aesthetics. Although current treatment approaches can limit the progression of the disease by controlling the inflammatory aspect, complete periodontal regeneration cannot be predictably achieved.

This clinicopathologic study of primary oral leiomyosarcoma of the buccal mucosa involves a literature review of 15 cases with the addition of our report of a case. The demographic details, tumor size, treatment and outcome are documented for all the cases. In addition, this review examines the histologic features of leiomyosarcoma while noting that differentiation from other spindle cell tumors can be challenging, underscoring the necessity of an immunohistochemical work up for an accurate diagnosis.

Background: Tissue regeneration requires a series of steps, beginning with generation of the necessary cell mass, followed by cell migration into damaged area, and ending with differentiation and integration with surrounding tissues. Temporal regulation of these steps lies at the heart of the regenerative process, yet its basis is not well understood. The ability of zebrafish to dedifferentiate mature "post-mitotic" myocytes into proliferating myoblasts that in turn regenerate lost muscle tissue provides an opportunity to probe the molecular mechanisms of regeneration.
