Patients with lung cancer face a substantially increased risk of thromboembolic disease. Patients with localized non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who are unfit for surgery due to age or comorbidity have additional thrombotic risk factors. Thus, we aimed to investigate markers of primary and secondary hemostasis, since this could assist in treatment decisions.

Cochlear implants (CIs) are optimized for speech perception but poor in conveying musical sound features such as pitch, melody, and timbre. Here, we investigated the early development of discrimination of musical sound features after cochlear implantation. Nine recently implanted CI users (CIre) were tested shortly after switch-on (T1) and approximately 3 months later (T2), using a musical multifeature mismatch negativity (MMN) paradigm, presenting four deviant features (intensity, pitch, timbre, and rhythm), and a three-alternative forced-choice behavioral test.

Department of Business Development and Technology, Center for Energy Technologies, 1006Aarhus University, Aarhus, Midtjylland, Denmark.

This article discusses and illuminates the synergies and jeopardies or tradeoffs that exist between the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and net-zero or future climate protection options such as greenhouse gas removal (GGR) technologies and solar radiation management (SRM) deployment approaches, respectively. Through a large-scale expert-interview exercise (N = 125), the study finds firstly that numerous synergies and tradeoffs exist between GGR, SRM, and the SDGs. More specifically, we reveal that GGR deployment could enhance the attainment of 16 of the 17 SDGs, but this comes with possible tradeoffs with 12 of the SDGs.

The Sonic Meanings of the Life and Death of My Disabled Brother: Listening as a Method for Qualitative Research.

Qual Health Res

November 2022

Faculty of Arts, School of Culture and Society, 1006Aarhus University, Aarhus, Denmark.

Long neglected listening is an underdeveloped element in western epistemology in general and in qualitative research in particular. However, recent developments in philosophy, sound art, anthropology, and qualitative research open promising pathways for mastering listening as a method and metaphor of inquiry also in health research, where understanding multiple layers of emotionally challenging experiences is crucial, yet often elusive. Through a sonic analysis of autobiographical data about life, death, and my disabled brother, I will try to demonstrate how paying attention to listening and sounds in research can add evolving layers of meaning to the data gathering and analyzing processes.

Center for Functionally Integrative Neuroscience (CFIN), Department of Clinical Medicine, 1006Aarhus University, Aarhus C, Denmark.

Systemic inflammation affects cognitive functions and increases the risk of dementia. This phenomenon is thought to be mediated in part by cytokines that promote neuronal survival, but the continuous exposure to which may lead to neurodegeneration. The effects of systemic inflammation on cerebral blood vessels, and their provision of adequate oxygen to support critical brain parenchymal cell functions, remains unclear.

The rates of intimate partner violence have been found to be higher among lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) individuals when compared with heterosexual populations. However, lesser is known about the impact of specific minority stressors experienced by LGB populations on their face-to-face intimate partner violence (IPV) and cyber IPV experiences. Using a three-step latent class approach, the present study investigated (i) the latent classes of self-reported types of face-to-face IPV and cyber IPV perpetration and victimization and (ii) their associations with LGB distal and proximal minority stressors (i.
