SPECT/CT versus planar imaging to determine treatment strategy for non-small-cell lung cancer: a cost-effectiveness analysis.

J Comp Eff Res

March 2022

Department of Medicine, Respirology Division, London Health Sciences Centre, University of Western Ontario, 800 Commissioners Rd E, London, ON N6A 5W9, Canada.

SPECT/CT has been found to improve predicted postoperative forced expiratory volume in one second (ppoFEV) assessments in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). An economic simulation was developed comparing the cost-effectiveness of SPECT/CT versus planar scintigraphy for a US payer. Clinical outcomes and cost data were obtained through review of the published literature.

Prospective implementation of a same-day discharge protocol for catheter ablation of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.

Arrhythmia Institute at Grandview, Grandview Medical Center, 3686 Grandview Parkway, Suite 720, Birmingham, AL, 35243, USA.

Purpose: Overnight stays associated with catheter ablation (CA) for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) account for a significant proportion of treatment cost. Same-day discharge (SDD) after CA may be attractive to both patients and hospitals, especially in light of current restrictions on overnight stays due to COVID-19. This study reports on the selection criteria, protocol, and safety of SDD after CA of PAF.

The number of primary total hip and knee replacement surgeries is increasing primarily due to an aging population. There is also a concomitant increase in the number of complications which could be attributed to high variation in arthroplasty techniques, peri-operative methods and the absence of integrated clinical pathways (ICP) to mitigate risks such as surgical site infections (SSIs). The implementation of ICPs incorporating watertight, multi-layer closure could increase the preventative effectiveness against joint prosthetic adverse events.

Background: Atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome (aHUS) is a rare, potentially life-threatening condition caused by dysregulation of the complement pathway. Eculizumab is currently the only approved treatment for this disorder.

Objective: Our objective was to investigate the impact of early administration of eculizumab on inpatient resource use and hospitalisation costs in 222 patients with aHUS.

Background: Catheter ablation technology has evolved rapidly in recent years. There is a need to understand the impact of these advances on efficiency, safety, and effectiveness in real-world populations. The objective of this study was to evaluate a standardized workflow that integrates a contact force (CF) catheter and stability module in an attempt to optimize efficiency and clinical outcomes of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) ablation, and to compare the outcomes of this workflow with existing ablation technologies at a high-volume center.

Aim: Determine the impact of a second generation microplegia delivery system (MPS2) compared with traditional cardioplegia. Materials &  methods: Multivariable difference-in-differences analysis using fixed effects was performed for each outcome: adverse event (AE) composite, total visit cost, medication cost, length of stay (LOS) and  intensive care unit (ICU) days.

Results: A 2.

Aim: To assess the relationship between type of contrast media (CM), iso-osmolar contrast media (IOCM) or low-osmolar contrast media (LOCM), and major adverse renal and cardiovascular events (MARCE).

Materials & Methods: Coronary or peripheral angioplasty visits were stratified into CM cohorts: IOCM or LOCM. Multivariable regression analysis used hospital fixed effects to assess the relationship between MARCE events and type of CM.
