Physical activity (PA) levels among the general population remain low despite well-known benefits. Previous research has demonstrated PA-based charity fundraising events may act as a catalyst for increased motivation for PA by fulfilling basic psychological needs while providing an emotional connection to a greater good. Therefore, the current study used a behavior-change based theoretical paradigm to develop and assess the feasibility of a 12-week charity-based virtual PA program intended to increase motivation and PA adherence.

Accurate and timely estimates of groundwater storage changes are critical to the sustainable management of aquifers worldwide, but are hindered by the lack of in-situ groundwater measurements in most regions. Hydrologic remote sensing measurements provide a potential pathway to quantify groundwater storage changes by closing the water balance, but the degree to which remote sensing data can accurately estimate groundwater storage changes is unclear. In this study, we quantified groundwater storage changes in California's Central Valley at two spatial scales for the period 2002 through 2020 using remote sensing data and an ensemble water balance method.

The potential risk that two closely related insecticides, spinetoram and spinosad, posed to three Cladoceran species, Ceriodaphnia dubia, Daphnia pulex, and D. magna was determined using two approaches, the USEPA Risk Quotient method and the Delay in Population Growth Index (DPGI). Modeling Spatial and Temporal Variation in Natural Background Specific Conductivity.

Understanding how background levels of dissolved minerals vary in streams temporally and spatially is needed to assess salinization of fresh water, establish reasonable thresholds and restoration goals, and determine vulnerability to extreme climate events like drought. We developed a random forest model that predicts natural background specific conductivity (SC), a measure of total dissolved ions, for all stream segments in the contiguous United States at monthly time steps between the years 2001 to 2015. Models were trained using 11 796 observations made at 1785 minimally impaired stream segments and validated with observations from an additional 92 segments.

The use of indicator species to test for environmental stability and functioning is a widespread practice. In aquatic systems, several daphniids (Cladocera: Daphniidae) are commonly used as indicator species; registration of new pesticides are mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency to be accompanied by daphniid toxicity data. This reliance upon a few species to infer ecosystem health and function assumes similar responses to toxicants across species with potentially very different life histories and susceptibility.
