Orchiectomy is the standard of care for many testicular conditions. Testicular prosthesis placement (TPP) can mitigate psychosocial burden, restore self-image, and improve quality of life for patients requiring orchiectomy. Limited data exist regarding patient attitudes and counseling on TPP in the United States.

Children referred to pediatric obesity programs are at high risk of binge-eating disorder (BED) symptoms. Our goal was to develop and evaluate the Children's Brief Binge-Eating Questionnaire (CBBEQ) as a rapid screen of BED symptomatology. Seventy patients between the ages of 7 and 18 years (57% females) completed the CBBEQ and underwent the Eating Disorder Assessment for (EDA).

Web- and application-based prescription services have been heralded as "Uber for birth control," offering patients the convenience of obtaining hormonal contraceptives at the touch of a smartphone screen. This innovation stands poised to disrupt a system that currently fails to meet the contraceptive needs of many women, particularly adolescents and those who are rural or low-income. The creation of online contraceptive prescribers provides a new and promising avenue for increased access to hormonal birth control.

Background: Severe, recurring epistaxis is the most common symptom of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasias (HHT). Current treatment modalities range from noninvasive treatments that frequently fail to achieve even short-term control to surgeries and systemic therapies that carry significant risk of complications. Recently, bevacizumab, a VEGF inhibitor, has been proposed as an alternative option to alleviate epistaxis symptoms in HHT.

Chagas disease, a vector-borne parasitic infection caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, represents a significant source of morbidity and mortality in the Americas. Mammalian reservoir species play a large role in propagating the sylvatic transmission cycle of this disease, and this cycle can spill over, resulting in human infections. Our understanding of the wildlife species implicated in propagating this transmission cycle is incomplete.

Background: There are variable recommendations regarding initiating monotherapy or dual therapy in patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes (T2D). Clear initial strategies are of particular importance in underserved settings where access to care and financial burdens are significant barriers.
Objectives: To provide descriptive data of metabolic outcomes to therapy regimens for low-income individuals with newly diagnosed T2D placed on oral hypoglycemic agents (OAs).

Realizing the reported misuse of human growth hormone (GH), investigation of a safe alternative mechanism for increasing endogenous GH is needed. Several GH secretagogues are available, including GH-releasing peptides (GHRPs) GHRP-2 and GHRP-6, and the GH-releasing hormone analog, sermorelin (SERM). Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) serves as a surrogate marker for GH.

Statins constitute a class of medications commonly used in the treatment of elevated cholesterol. However, in experimental studies, statins also have other non-cholesterol-mediated mechanisms of action, which may have neuroprotective effects. The aim of this study was to determine whether administration of atorvastatin for 7 days post-injury would improve neurological recovery in patients with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).

We evaluated whether high-sensitivity troponin T (hs-cTnT), a marker associated with cardiovascular disease, can stratify risk in MetS. Methods We evaluated associations between MetS (and groups with similar number of MetS components) and incident heart failure hospitalization, coronary heart disease, stroke and death using hs-cTnT categories after adjusting for risk factors/markers between 1996 and 2011 in 8204 individuals in the Atherosclerosis Risk In Communities study.

Dry eye disease (DED) is a common ocular disorder associated with inflammation of the lacrimal gland and ocular surface. The interaction of the integrin lymphocyte function-associated antigen-1 (LFA-1) with its cognate ligand intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) is known to have important roles in the interaction of a variety of cells involved in immune responses and inflammation, including those prominent in ocular surface inflammation. Lifitegrast, an LFA-1 antagonist that blocks binding of ICAM-1 to LFA-1, has recently been approved in the United States for the treatment of signs and symptoms of DED.

An important approach to reduce youth tobacco use is the adoption of regulations to prohibit tobacco product sale to individuals younger than 21 years, termed Tobacco 21. In the United States, close to 90% of current smokers started smoking before the age of 18 years, and 99% before age 26 years. Earlier age of tobacco use initiation is associated with lower rates of smoking cessation.

We sought to identify factors associated with treatment failure and leg amputations among those patients who presented with foot osteomyelitis. Characteristics, treatments, and outcomes for all patients treated for probable or definite foot osteomyelitis (per consensus definition) between January 2011 and March 2015 were reviewed. Multivariate Cox regression models were used to identify risk factors for treatment failure (unanticipated resection of additional bone or leg amputation) and of leg amputation alone.

This article presents the results of a randomized clinical trial evaluating the eight-session Family Eats web-based intervention promoting healthy home food environments for African American families. African American families ( n = 126) with 8- to 12-year-old children completed online baseline questionnaires and were randomized into intervention or control groups. Data collection occurred at baseline, immediately postintervention (Post 1), and 4 months later (Post 2), for parents and children, separately.
