Effect of Area-Level Deprivation on Cancer Survival Time: A Register-Based Follow-up Study of 145 585 Korean Subjects.

Our goal is to evaluate the strengths of the associations between area-level deprivation and survival time for a variety of cancers. A total of 145 585 subjects were diagnosed with various cancers in Busan, Korea, and an area-level deprivation index constructed from several important socioeconomic variables. A multilevel Cox model was used in the analysis to investigate the effects of multiple risk factors.

Occult Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis in Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Langerhans cell histiocytosis is a rare disease that is characterized by a localized or systemic proliferation of Langerhans dendritic cells and a wide spectrum of clinical presentations. We experienced an unusual case of occult Langerhans cell histiocytosis associated with clear cell renal cell carcinoma. A 62-year-old man underwent a partial nephrectomy for left renal mass.

Spinal Cord Injury and Seated Postural Control: A Test of the Rambling and Trembling Hypothesis.

Rambling-trembling analysis separates the center of pressure into two components: the rambling component (RM: supraspinal) and trembling component (TM: muscle stiffness/reflex). We hypothesized that persons with spinal cord injury (SCI) would demonstrate decreased RM resulting from altered supraspinal processing and increased TM resulting from increased muscle stiffness. We also anticipated that the TM component would be greater in SCI patients with Harrington rods than in those without them.

Meta-analysis update of association between dopamine transporter SLC6A3 gene polymorphism and smoking cessation.

The SLC6A3 gene is involved in the dopamine pathway, which influences smoking behavior. This study was conducted to present updated results of a meta-analysis to evaluate the association between SLC6A3 polymorphism and smoking cessation. In total, eight studies were assessed, and 9-repeat alleles and no 9-repeat alleles were compared by smoking cessation outcomes.
