Gut microbiome interaction goes beyond commensal function as vitamin production or support nutrients digestion. It also interplays with the host immune system and may be related to the development of immune-mediated diseases. Multiple sclerosis patients have dysbiosis compared to healthy individuals.

Participants reached to 3-dimensional depth targets presented in the loVF and upper-visual field (upVF) in binocular and monocular visual conditions, and when online vision was available (i.e.

The effect of pediatric cancer and its treatment are overwhelming-these effects are multifaceted and felt by the entire family unit throughout the diagnosis and treatment process. Children experience a plethora of effects as a result of the treatment process; however, it is imperative to remember that a pediatric cancer diagnosis affects parents physically, emotionally, and psychologically as well. While much of the pediatric cancer treatment occurs at the hospital or in clinics, parents are often faced with additional caregiving responsibilities at home, and in many cases, it is mothers who provide care to their children, while also attempting to care for the siblings of their ill children.

Socially isolated aging adults are at risk of poor health and well-being. Occupational therapy can help address this issue; however, information is needed to guide such work. National surveys characterize social isolation in populations of aging adults but fail to provide meaningful information at a community level.

Driving errors that predict on-road outcomes for persons with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) are not well studied. The objective of this study was to determine whether adjustment-to-stimuli and gap acceptance errors significantly predict passing/failing a standardized on-road assessment of PwMS. Thirty-seven participants completed visual ability and visual attention assessments, and participated in an on-road assessment, where seven types of driving errors and pass/fail outcomes were determined.

Through a series of tasks concurrently assessing multisensory temporal processes, multisensory integration and speech perception in 76 children with and without autism, we provide the first behavioral evidence of such a link. Temporal processing abilities in children with autism contributed to impairments in speech perception.

Although used across North America, many on-road studies do not explicitly document the content and metrics of on-road courses and accompanying assessments. This article discusses the development of the University of Western Ontario's on-road course, and elucidates the validity of its accompanying on-road assessment. We identified main components for developing an on-road course and used measurement theory to establish face, content, and initial construct validity.

Introduction: Crohn's disease (CD) is an idiopathic inflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal tract traditionally treated by the step-wise use of corticosteroids, antimetabolites and TNF-α antagonists. However, recent evidence indicates that the early introduction of drug combinations might be a superior strategy to step-care.
Areas Covered: In this article, we review existing literature regarding the efficacy and safety of combination drug therapy for the management of CD.

A variety of fluorescent proteins have been identified that undergo shifts in spectral emission properties over time or once they are irradiated by ultraviolet or blue light. Such proteins are finding application in following the dynamics of particular proteins or labelled organelles within the cell. However, before genes encoding these fluorescent proteins were available, many proteins have already been labelled with GFP in transgenic cells; a number of model organisms feature collections of GFP-tagged lines and organisms.
