Research-based findings with vulnerable populations are strengthened by strong retention rates at the time of postintervention data collection. Women in the criminal justice system face a variety of gender-specific challenges including histories of childhood and adult sexual and physical abuse, substance abuse, untreated mental health problems, and chronic housing insecurity that can hinder follow-up of a research sample. The authors highlight a variety of retention strategies that they successfully used in their work with women following incarceration in local county jails.

Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs), developed to inform clinicians, patients, and policy makers about what constitutes optimal clinical care, are one way of increasing implementation of evidence into clinical practice. Many factors must be considered by multidisciplinary guideline panels, including strength of available evidence, limitations of current knowledge, risks/benefits of interventions, patient values, and limited resources. Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) is a framework for summarizing evidence that has been endorsed by many national and international organizations for developing CPGs.

Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with cancer are often impacted by distress due to disease and treatment. Despite these concerns, prior research has found that AYAs do not utilize support resources, do not find these resources adequate, and or do not have adequate access to services. The objective of this project was to understand and identify AYA patient concerns and experiences throughout cancer treatment, what resources were utilized, how they were identified, and how supportive care resources for AYA cancer patients can be improved.

Efforts to increase HFRT use have had mixed success. We implemented a prospective peer review chart rounds integrating all practice sites and reviewed the use of HFRT in an attempt to identify potential predictors of use.

This study explored relations between conformity to masculine norms, gender role conflict, hope, and psychological well-being among a sample of 389 men from a university, with a predominantly White student body, located in the Midwestern United States. Bivariate correlations revealed that men's conformity to masculine norms and gender role conflict were positively correlated. Bivariate correlations revealed no significant relations between conformity to masculine norms, trait hope, and psychological well-being.

We conducted a systematic literature review to identify the impact of group practice type on the quality of care among specialty providers. The search resulted in 913 articles, of which only 4 met inclusion criteria.

Although the importance of health care access is widely acknowledged, less is known about how partnerships can help assure access to quality health services for those experiencing health inequities. This report describes implementation of collaborative efforts through the Health Access Committee of the Latino Health for All Coalition (Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas) to address its three goal areas (1) improving cultural competence through organizational change, (2) improving access to quality health services through access to diabetes prevention services, and (3) improving access and linkage to care via enrollment in health insurance. Using community-based participatory approaches, we documented and reflected on the pattern of activities facilitated by the coalition and its partners for each goal area over a 1-year period.

Purpose: As a consequence of cancer treatment, many adolescents and young adults (AYA) patients are required to take leave or face setbacks from their education. While most AYA cancer survivors and survivors of childhood cancer are capable of successfully returning to the educational system, unsuccessful returns place AYA at an increased risk of social isolation, stigmatization, and financial burden. The perspective of AYA cancer survivors who have returned to education is valuable to understand the challenges faced and resources available throughout this transition.

Pancreatic cancers are enriched with cancer stem-like cells (CSCs), which are resistant to chemotherapies, and responsible for tumor metastasis and recurrence. Here, we investigated the extract of a medicinal plant Pao Pereira (Pao) for its activity against pancreatic CSCs. Pao inhibited overall proliferation of human pancreatic cancer cell lines with IC ranging from 125 to 325 μg/mL and had limited cytotoxicity to normal epithelial cells.

Introduction: Due to enhanced T-cell activity, immune checkpoint inhibitors cause immune-related adverse effects. Corticosteroids are the mainstay of immune-related adverse effect management but the optimal strategy has not been determined, putting patients at risk for steroid-related adverse effects and potentially decreased efficacy of immunotherapy. This study aims to characterize the use of corticosteroids for the management of immune-related adverse effect.

Children use executive function (EF) skills within everyday occupations; however, EF poses a difficult and complex construct to measure. Currently, many measures of EF lack applicability to daily life, or ecological validity. The aim of this scoping review was to examine two aspects of ecological validity across measures, assessments, and tasks of EF in children.

Research studies using existing samples of individuals with autism spectrum disorders have identified differences in symptoms between males and females. Differences are typically reported in school age and adolescence, with similarities in symptom presentation at earlier ages. However, existing studies on sex differences are significantly limited, making it challenging to discern if, how, and at what point in development females with autism spectrum disorder actually exhibit a different behavioral presentation than males.
