Measuring Disability in Patients With Cervical Dystonia According to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health.

Cervical Dystonia (CD) is a rare movement disorder characterized by an abnormal head position. This cross-sectional study describes the health status and severity of disability using an internationally agreed language by applying the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). Two disease-specific rating scales were administered to 30 patients with CD.

Unravelling Motor Learning Processes in Theater Performers.

Theater performers, more than common actors, experience high physical loadings. This study aimed at analyzing the motor behavior of novice performers (dancers/actors who were introduced to the acting method of Jan Fabre) by investigating the kinematics of a physical acting exercise in a prospective study. Two measurement sessions were organized: before and after the novice performers (N = 13) took part in seven workshops.

Do Performers' Experience and Sex Affect Their Performance?

This cross-sectional study aimed at developing a biomechanical method to objectify voluntary and unpredictable movements, using an automated three-dimensional motion capture system and surface electromyography. Fourteen experienced theater performers were tested while executing the old man exercise, wherein they have to walk like an old man, building up a sustained high intensive muscular activity and tremor. Less experienced performed showed a different kinematics of movement, a slower speed of progression and more variable EMG signals at higher intensity.

Cyber Dating Abuse Victimization Among Secondary School Students From a Lifestyle-Routine Activities Theory Perspective.

Controlling one's romantic partner through digital media is a form of cyber dating abuse. To design effective educational campaigns, a deeper understanding of how some young people become victim of this type of abuse within their romantic relationships is warranted. This study is the first to adopt a lifestyle-routine activities theory perspective toward online romantic partner monitoring, by looking at whether secondary school students' risky digital lifestyle and their digital media use are linked to a higher chance of being controlled by a romantic partner, taking into account gender, age, and the length of the romantic relationship.

MIR137 variants identified in psychiatric patients affect synaptogenesis and neuronal transmission gene sets.

Sequence analysis of 13 microRNA (miRNA) genes expressed in the human brain and located in genomic regions associated with schizophrenia and/or bipolar disorder, in a northern Swedish patient/control population, resulted in the discovery of two functional variants in the MIR137 gene. On the basis of their location and the allele frequency differences between patients and controls, we explored the hypothesis that the discovered variants impact the expression of the mature miRNA and consequently influence global mRNA expression affecting normal brain functioning. Using neuronal-like SH-SY5Y cells, we demonstrated significantly reduced mature miR-137 levels in the cells expressing the variant miRNA gene.

Effects of ozone exposure on growth and photosynthesis of beech seedlings (Fagus sylvatica).

The effects of ambient and elevated ozone levels on growth and photosynthesis of beech (Fagus sylvatica) were studied by exposing seedlings in open-top chambers for one growing season to three treatments: charcoal-filtered (CF), non-filtered (NF) and non-filtered air with addition of ozone (30 ppb ozone) on clear days for 8-10 h d (NF +). Ambient levels were relatively low and accumulated to an AOT40 (accumulated exposure over a threshold of 40 ppb) of 4055 ppb h (for the period 23 Apr-30 Sept). The NF + chambers received an AOT40 of 8880 ppb h.
