Common Questions and Misconceptions in the Management of Renal Transplant Patients: A Guide for Health Care Providers in the Posttransplant Setting.

Once renal transplant recipients are stabilized and require less frequent follow-up with their transplant team, health care providers outside of the transplant setting play an integral role in patients' ongoing medical care. Given renal transplant recipients' inherent complexity, these health care providers often seek consult regarding decisions that may affect transplant-related medications or outcomes. In this review, we discuss answers to 10 of the questions commonly posed to our renal transplant team by other health care providers.

Neurovascular and Clinical Outcomes of the Percutaneous Endoscopically Assisted Calcaneal Osteotomy (PECO) Technique to Correct Hindfoot Malalignment.

Background:: Standard open calcaneal osteotomies to correct hindfoot malalignment have been associated with high complication rates, including nerve damage and wound infection. This has resulted in the development of minimally invasive techniques such as the percutaneous endoscopically assisted calcaneal osteotomy (PECO), which in cadaver studies has been shown to be potentially safer than open surgeries. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of PECO in a clinical setting, with regard to neurovascular injury rates, infection, and short-term radiographic and functional outcomes.

Exploring the patients' experiences of living with a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator.

Background: The implantable cardioverter defibrillator provides effective treatment for the prevention of sudden cardiac arrest but significant risks associated with transvenous implantation persist. The subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator has proven to be an alternative and innovative treatment option for select patients to mitigate these risks. Obtaining the patients' perspectives can provide clinicians with essential information to guide implant selection, procedural decision-making, and support patient management.

A cross-sectional study of ethnicity-based differences in treatment seeking for symptoms of acute coronary syndrome.

Background: Patient-related delays in acquiring medical care for symptoms of acute coronary syndrome remain unacceptably long. Many clinical and sociodemographic characteristics associated with treatment-seeking delay are known; however, ethnicity has not been extensively evaluated.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine ethnicity-based differences in the time-to-treatment-seeking intervals of patients experiencing symptoms of acute coronary syndrome.

An Anatomic Study of the Percutaneous Endoscopically Assisted Calcaneal Osteotomy Technique to Correct Hindfoot Malalignment.

Background: Open calcaneal osteotomy using traditional methods is associated with complications such as sural nerve injury and potential wound healing problems. We hypothesized that by using novel minimally invasive techniques, these potential risks could be mitigated. This anatomic cadaveric study serves to assess the safety of percutaneous endoscopically assisted calcaneal osteotomy (PECO) compared to a traditional open osteotomy technique.
