Quantum chemical hybrid MP2:PBE+D2 calculations in combination with molecular statistics are employed to calculate enthalpies and Gibbs free energies of adsorption for CH at Brønsted acid sites [bridging Si-O(H)-Al groups] and silica wall sites (Si-O-Si) of the proton form of zeolite MFI (H-ZSM-5) and its purely siliceous analogue Silicalite-1. A Langmuir model is adopted to calculate the amounts of CH adsorbed at each type of site from the Gibbs free energies. The combination of these results according to the ratio of silica wall sites and Brønsted acid sites in the sample yields adsorption isotherms for zeolites with different Si/Al ratios.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to explore how therapeutic phlebotomy (bloodletting) affects blood pressure in patients with grade 1 hypertension who are not on medication, comparing results between an intervention group and a control group over 8 weeks.
  • - Results showed that while the intervention group had a slight decrease in mean arterial pressure (-1.12 mmHg), the control group experienced a slight increase (0.43 mmHg), suggesting minimal overall impact of phlebotomy on blood pressure.
  • - Although some patients in the intervention group experienced mild adverse events like dizziness and anemia, there were no serious complications, indicating that the procedure is generally safe but may require more in-depth clinical trials for conclusive results.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the effectiveness of assisted percutaneous transluminal coronary revascularization in 39 patients (mostly middle-aged men) who had serious heart issues and were not good candidates for traditional surgery.
  • Mechanical support methods used included intraaortic balloon counterpulsation, extracorporeal circulation, and hemopump systems.
  • Results showed significant improvements in heart function and decreased angina symptoms, with a low hospital mortality rate of 2.6%, despite some serious complications.
