Loss to follow-up (LTF) has been associated with worse outcomes after procedures. We sought to identify differences in lower extremity peripheral vascular intervention (PVI) patients with and without LTF, and to determine if LTF impacted survival. Patients in the PVI registry of the Vascular Quality Initiative (VQI) were included ( = 39,342), where -test and chi-squared analysis were used to compare those with and without LTF.

Microglandular adenosis (MGA) of the breast is exceedingly rare, with only a few case reports and series published to date. Previous studies have elegantly demonstrated the progression of benign MGA to atypical MGA to MGA-in situ carcinoma to invasive carcinoma and therefore suggest MGA as a possible non-obligate precursor lesion to a subset of breast carcinomas. Immunohistochemically, MGA is negative for estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and HER2-neu oncoprotein expression, and carcinomas arising in the setting of MGA are often reported to be triple negative.

Thyroid-like follicular carcinoma of the kidney (TLFCK) is an extremely rare primary renal malignancy that typically has an indolent course and good prognosis. Histologically, this tumor mimics follicular carcinoma of the thyroid; however, typical thyroid markers are negative. There are fewer than 40 cases reported in the literature, and thus, the prognosis and course of disease is not well understood.

Background The impact of skeletal muscle size, quantified using simple noninvasive images routinely obtained during cardiac magnetic resonance imaging studies on mortality in the heart failure ( HF ) population is currently unknown. Methods and Results We prospectively enrolled 567 subjects without HF (n=364), with HF with reduced ejection fraction (n=111), or with HF with preserved ejection fraction (n=92), who underwent a cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. Skeletal muscle cross-sectional area was assessed with manual tracing of major thoracic muscle groups on axial chest magnetic resonance images.

Federal research dollars help investigators develop biomedical therapies for human diseases. Currently, the state of funding in hand surgery is poorly understood. This study defines the portfolio of National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants awarded in hand surgery.

Classic biphasic pulmonary blastoma (CBPB) is a rare and aggressive type of non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) presenting in adults in the fourth to fifth decade. The prognosis is poor and after surgical resection, therapeutic options are often limited. ROS1 is a proto-oncogene receptor tyrosine kinase that has been identified in some types of NSCLC.

Background: Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) is a vascular tumor arising in association with human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) infection, and different variants show different clinical presentations. Isolated intestinal KS in the background of Crohn's disease (CD) is exceedingly rare with only 3 cases reported in the English literature (from 1966 to 2016).

Case Presentation: Herein, we report a case of intestinal KS in a 21-year-old HIV-negative Ethiopian male with a long-standing history of steroid therapy for his underlying IgA nephropathy.

Background: Hand conditions commonly present to the emergency department (ED), yet data are lacking regarding the magnitude of hand-related conditions in the emergency setting. The purpose of this study is to describe the burden and quantify the health care resource utilization of hand conditions seen in EDs across the United States.

Methods: Using the National Emergency Department Sample, we identified all ED encounters by patients at least 18 years of age that were associated with a hand condition in 2009 to 2012.

The majority of mixed epithelial and stromal tumors (MEST) of the kidney are benign entities found in female patients. Malignant MEST of the kidney is an extremely rare entity that often behaves clinically similar to an undifferentiated sarcoma. We report a case of a malignant MEST with synchronous papillary and clear cell renal cell carcinomas (RCCs) in a 61-year-old Caucasian man who presented with an incidental finding of a left renal mass on workup for back pain.

Pseudotumor cerebri syndrome (PTCS) is defined by the presence of elevated intracranial pressure (ICP) in the setting of normal brain parenchyma and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Headache, vision changes, and papilledema are common presenting features. Up to 10% of appropriately treated patients may experience permanent visual loss.
