Obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (oHCM) is a subtype of HCM characterized by left ventricular outflow tract obstruction resulting from cardiac muscle hypertrophy and anatomic alterations in the mitral valve and apparatus. Mavacamten, a cardiac myosin inhibitor metabolized primarily by CYP2C19 in the liver, is the first and only targeted medication approved for the treatment of symptomatic New York Heart Association (NYHA) class II-III oHCM. Previous pharmacokinetic (PK) results of mavacamten in healthy Caucasian, Japanese, and Asian participants demonstrated that mavacamten exposure was affected by CYP2C19 metabolism status.

Central Laboratory, Shanghai Xuhui Central Hospital/Xuhui Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai, 200031, China.

VV116 (JT001) is an oral drug candidate of nucleoside analog against SARS-CoV-2. The purpose of the three phase I studies was to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of single and multiple ascending oral doses of VV116 in healthy subjects, as well as the effect of food on the pharmacokinetics and safety of VV116. Three studies were launched sequentially: Study 1 (single ascending-dose study, SAD), Study 2 (multiple ascending-dose study, MAD), and Study 3 (food-effect study, FE).

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) continues to spread rapidly worldwide. This study is the first to report the tolerability, safety, pharmacokinetics (PK), and immunogenicity of a recombinant human anti-SARS-CoV-2 monoclonal antibody, etesevimab (CB6, JS016, LY3832479, or LY-CoV016), in healthy adults. This paper describes a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 1 study.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the tolerability, safety, and pharmacokinetics of single and continuous dose administration of recombinant neorudin (EPR-hirudin, EH) by intravenous administration in healthy subjects, and to provide a safe dosage range for phase II clinical research. Forty-four subjects received EH as a single dose of between 0.2 and 2.

Article Synopsis
  • A randomized, double-blind study evaluated the pharmacokinetic (PK) equivalence of the adalimumab biosimilar HLX03 and the reference drug in 220 healthy Chinese males receiving a 40 mg dose.
  • Results showed that the PK measures (C and AUC) of HLX03 were within the predefined equivalence range compared to CN-sourced adalimumab, indicating bioequivalence.
  • Safety and immunogenicity profiles were similar across both groups, supporting the further clinical development of HLX03 as an effective alternative to adalimumab.

Long noncoding RNAs are capable of regulating gene expression at multiple levels. These RNA molecules are also involved in a variety of physiological and pathological processes. Emerging data demonstrate that a series of differentially expressed long noncoding RNAs are implicated in tumorigenesis.

The current study examined how the trends in childhood vaccination refusal in Kedah, Malaysia, changed over a 4-year period (2013-2016). Data contributed by 60 public health centers were used to determine the annual incidence rates (per 1000 newborns) of vaccination refusal, and to identify the reasons for refusal among the mothers. The trend analysis revealed a 2.

8-Oxoguanine DNA glycosylase (OGG1) is responsible for repairing 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroguanine (8-oxoG). Our previous study demonstrated that α-OGG1 protects cells from oxidative damage-induced apoptosis and mitochondrial dysfunction in human lung cancer cells. However, the function of β-OGG1 remains to be elucidated.

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is characterised by a depletion of lactobacilli in favour of an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria. It is associated with increased risk for urogenital infections and abortion. In this study we assessed the effect of a yoghurt drink containing Lactobacillus strains on BV.

Rational: Several studies have found higher risks for childhood respiratory illness, associated with exposure to particulate matter (PM) less than 10 μm in diameter (PM) and PM and gaseous pollution.

Objectives: We analyzed the association between air pollution and hospitalizations due to bronchiolitis, an obstructive pulmonary disorder, commonly caused by respiratory syncytial virus infant infection.

Methods: Data were obtained from a local tertiary medical center providing services for a population of 700,000 comprising two ethnic groups: predominantly urban Jews and rural Bedouin Arabs.

1 Clinical Research Center, The Second Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, China.

Recent technological advancements have shown tremendous mechanistic accomplishments in our understanding of the mechanism of messenger RNA translation in eukaryotic cells. Eukaryotic messenger RNA translation is very complex process that includes four phases (initiation, elongation, termination, and ribosome recycling) and diverse mechanisms involving protein and non-protein molecules. Translation regulation is principally achieved during initiation step of translation, which is organized by multiple eukaryotic translation initiation factors.

Department of Rehabilitation, Hospital of Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center, Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine, No. 55 Neihuan Xi Road, Guangzhou, Guangdong, 510006, China.

Background: Loss of neural function is a critical but unsolved issue after cerebral ischemia insult. Neuronal plasticity and remodeling are crucial for recovery of neural functions after brain injury. Buyang Huanwu decoction, which is a classic formula in traditional Chinese medicine, can positively alter synaptic plasticity.

The major circulating HIV-1 strains in Japan have been subtype B (B) followed by CRF01_AE (AE) in newly diagnosed HIV/AIDS cases. These two subtypes have distinct epidemiological characteristics; B predominates in men who have sex with men, while AE is observed mostly in heterosexuals engaging in high-risk sex. However, transmission networks of these two high-risk populations appear to be crossing over and diffusing.

Noninvasive biomarkers with diagnostic value and prognostic applications have long been desired to replace muscle biopsy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) patients. Growing evidence indicates that circulating microRNAs are biomarkers to assess pathophysiological status. Here, we show that the serum levels of six muscle-specific miRNAs (miR-1/206/133/499/208a/208b, also known as myomiRs) were all elevated in DMD patients (P < 0.

Objective: This study aimed to examine whether, on the basis of the relationship between sensors attached on the upper limbs and energy expenditure (EE) at the time of wheelchair propulsion, there are differences in the measurement of EE depending on the sensor attachment site and whether addition of the angular velocity information to the acceleration value is advantageous. We also aimed to clarify the variables used to estimate EE as well as the estimated error.

Setting: Laboratory of the National Hospital Organization Murayama Medical Center, Japan.
