Primitive myxoid mesenchymal tumor of infancy (PMMTI) is a rare mesenchymal tumor of early childhood characterized by aggressive local infiltration of surrounding structures, rare metastases, and poor response to chemotherapy. Surgery alone appears to be the most effective treatment given the lack of predilection for metastasis and poor response to traditional chemotherapy. Below we report a patient with PMMTI successfully managed with surgery and observation and summarize the existing literature on histopathologic features and treatment of this lesion.

Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors represent a family of ligand-gated ion channels that are widely expressed in the central and peripheral nervous systems. To date, 16 genes encoding subunits of mammalian nicotinic acetylcholine receptors have been identified. The various subunits form homomeric or heteromeric receptor proteins, allowing for a complex and adaptable system of nicotinic neurotransmission.

To determine if DENV is present in the area, we tested 3768 clinical specimens (2138 cerebrospinal fluid [CSF] and 1630 serum) collected from patients with suspected mosquito-borne viral disease between 2003 and 2005. We identified 47 immunoglobulin M (IgM)-positive dengue cases, including two cases that were positive for viral RNA in serum for dengue serotype 2.
