Purpose: To determine the incidence of therapeutic target attainment using a three-times per week protocol for vancomycin therapy given during the last hour of intermittent hemodialysis (HD).

Methods: A single-center retrospective cohort study was conducted of patient medical records in a remote dialysis center from January 2017 to July 2023. Adult patients with chronic kidney disease stage 5 on ≥3 months of intermittent HD who had received a course of vancomycin therapy with ≥1 serum vancomycin concentration recorded were included.

In France, mexiletine, a non-selective voltage-gated sodium channel blocker, is approved for the treatment of myotonia in adults with NDM, and it has a temporary recommendation for use in the symptomatic treatment of DM in adults.

From pediatric emergency department to pediatric intensive care unit: a retrospective study in a French Tertiary University hospital.

Objective: The management of a child presenting with a critical medical or surgical condition is a scarce event in the pediatric emergency department (PED). In this one year retrospective study, we have tried to better characterize the profile and care pathway of children who had been transferred to the neonatal or pediatric intensive care or critical care units (PICCU) after a visit to the PED, or died in PED.

Two synthetic 2-(2'-hydroxyphenyl)benzoxazole derivatives named azo-4'-benzoxazole and azo-5'-benzoxazole have shown an unprecedented blue light absorption capacity but had not been subjected to a safety evaluation. This study aimed to evaluate the cytotoxic, genotoxic, and mutagenic activities of these compounds.

Optimizing Workplace Violence Reporting in a Multisite Hospital Setting: A Quality Improvement Initiative.

Introduction: Workplace violence (WPV) is a significant concern in healthcare settings and indicates the need for accurate reporting to plan and implement effective interventions. This article presents the results of a quality improvement (QI) initiative implemented at a large academic health sciences center to improve the reporting of WPV events.

Methods: The Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) model was adopted to optimize the electronic reporting process, reduce inaccuracies of WPV reporting, and ensure appropriate follow-up from leadership and the Workplace Health, Safety, and Wellness (WHSW) team.

Case-control study on long-term kidney outcomes in very low birth weight infants: impact of growth restriction and maternal preeclampsia.

Background: Recent advances in multimodal signal analysis enable the identification of subtle drug-induced anomalies in sleep that traditional methods often miss.

New Method: We develop and introduce the Dynamic Representation of Multimodal Activity and Markov States (DREAMS) framework, which embeds explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) techniques to model hidden state transitions during sleep using tensorized EEG, EMG, and EOG signals from 22 subjects across three age groups (18-29, 30-49, and 50-66 years). By combining Tucker decomposition with probabilistic Hidden Markov Modeling, we quantified age-specific, temazepam-induced hidden states and significant differences in transition probabilities.

Cotadutide reversible self-assembly based long-acting injectable depot for sustained delivery of GLP-1 glucagon receptor agonists with controlled burst release.

Cota is a lipidated dual GLP-1 and Glucagon receptor agonist that was investigated for the treatment of various metabolic diseases, it is designed for once daily subcutaneous administration. Invasive daily injections often result in poor patient compliance with chronic disease, and here, we demonstrate an innovative strategy of encapsulating reversible cota self-assembled fibers within an in-situ forming depot of low molecular weight poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid (LWPLGA) for sustained delivery GLP-1 and Glucagon receptor agonist with controlled burst release. This could be a suitable alternative to other sustained delivery strategies for fibrillating peptides.

Effects of blood-brain barrier opening using ultrasound on tauopathies: A systematic review.

Unlabelled: Blood-brain barrier opening with ultrasound can potentiate drug efficacy in the treatment of brain pathologies and also provides therapeutic effects on its own. It is an innovative tool to transiently, repeatedly and safely open the barrier, with studies showing beneficial effects in both preclinical models for Alzheimer's disease and recent clinical studies. The first preclinical and clinical work has mainly shown a decrease in amyloid burden in mice models and in patients.

Unravelling phylogenetic relationships within the genus Lispe (Diptera: Muscidae) through genome-assisted and de novo analyses of RAD-seq data.

Lispe represents a species-rich genus within the family Muscidae. The current subdivision of Lispe species into species groups is based mainly on adult morphology and ecology, with the only available phylogenetic study based on three molecular markers. Nonetheless, certain species groups remain unclear and the relationships and composition of these groups are still unresolved.

Objective: To investigate the association between the cumulative exposure to triglyceride-glucose index (cumTyG index) and fragility fractures in the general population.

Methods: This prospective cohort study analyzed active and retired employees of Kailuan Group who participated in three consecutive health examinations in 2006, 2008 and 2010, and were followed up until 31st December 2022. The cohort comprised 55,824 participants who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were grouped using the cumTyG index quartiles.

Metallofullerenol Gd@C(OH) preserves human erythrocyte plasma membrane integrity from AAPH-induced oxidative stress: molecular mechanisms and antioxidant activity.

Metallofullerenols and fullerenols have attracted attention due to their remarkable ability to interact with various biologically relevant molecules, paving the way for biomedical applications, ranging from medical imaging techniques to drug carriers, acting with increased efficiency and reduced side effects. In this work, we investigated the effects of two fullerene derivatives, Gd@C(OH) and C(OH), on erythrocyte membrane components under oxidative stress conditions induced by 2,2'-azobis(2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AAPH) as a source of peroxyl radicals. The results demonstrated that gadolinium encapsulation within the fullerene cage enhanced the electron affinity of Gd@C(OH), resulting in stronger antioxidant activity.

Modulation of N-glycosylation in the PD-1: PD-L1 axis as a strategy to enhance cancer immunotherapies.

The modulation of the N-glycosylation status in immune checkpoints, particularly the PD-1/PD-L1 axis, has emerged as a promising approach to enhance cancer immunotherapies. While immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) targeting PD-1 and PD-L1 have achieved significant clinical success, recent studies highlight the critical role of N-glycosylation in regulating their expression, stability, and function. Alterations in N-glycosylation might affect the efficacy of ICIs by modulating the interactions between immune checkpoints and antibodies used in therapy.
