Oncolytic viruses (OVs) are a promising therapeutic approach for cancer, although their systemic administration faces significant challenges. Mesenchymal stem cells have emerged as potential carriers to overcome these obstacles due to their tumor-tropic properties. This study investigates the use of menstrual blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MenSCs) as carriers for OVs in cancer therapy, focusing on enhancing their efficacy through different culture conditions.

Introduction: Chronic hand ischaemia may affect some haemodialysis patients with an arteriovenous fistula (AVF) or graft (AVG), a condition known as haemodialysis access-induced distal ischaemia (HAIDI). Duplex ultrasonography (DUS) can provide comprehensive insights into anatomical and perfusion properties, and measuring the hand acceleration time (HAT) has been demonstrated to be sensitive within the framework of chronic upper limb ischaemia.
Methods And Analysis: This single-centre, prospective cohort study will involve adult end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients requiring either AVF or AVG for haemodialysis.

Epsilon toxin (ETX) from is a pore-forming toxin (PFT) that crosses the blood-brain barrier and binds to myelin structures. In in vitro assays, ETX causes oligodendrocyte impairment, subsequently leading to demyelination. In fact, ETX has been associated with triggering multiple sclerosis.

Background: Advanced breast cancer affects approximately 30 % of people diagnosed with breast cancer, leading to distressing symptoms and unmet needs. Despite the consensus on the need for specialist care, access remains inconsistent due to disparities in specialist cancer nurse education.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the acceptability, usability, learning experience and perceived impact of the advanced breast cancer for nurses (ABC4Nurses) eLearning programme on learners' clinical practice.

Germline copy number variants (CNVs) play a significant role in hereditary diseases. However, the accurate detection of CNVs from targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS) gene panel data remains a challenging task. Several tools for calling CNVs within this context have been published to date, but the available benchmarks suffer from limitations, including testing on simulated data, testing on small datasets, and testing a small subset of published tools.

: Sinonasal exophytic papillomas (SNEP) are benign tumours arising from nasal mucosa. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection seems to be related to the aetiology of a fraction of SNEP cases. SNEP presentation can be focal (FSNEP) or diffuse (DSNEP), but factors related to focal or diffuse presentation have not yet been well ascertained.

Gene expression appears altered in apparently normal tissue surrounding tumor tissue. The observed biological alterations in the tumor microenvironment play a crucial role in cancer development and are named the cancer field effect (FE). A robust set of overexpressed FE genes in tissue surrounding colorectal cancer (CRC) tumor were identified in previous studies.

Heart failure (HF) with preserved ejection fraction (pEF) has lacked effective treatments for reducing mortality. However, previous studies have found an association between statin use and decreased mortality in patients with HFpEF. The aim of this study was to analyse whether statin therapy is associated with a reduction in mortality in these patients and whether the effect differs according to the presence or absence of ischaemic heart disease (IHD).

(1) Introduction: The global rise of gastrointestinal diseases, including colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel diseases, highlights the need to understand their causes. Diet is a common risk factor and a crucial regulator of gene expression, with alterations observed in both conditions. This study aims to elucidate the specific biological mechanisms through which diet influences the risk of bowel diseases.

Lemur tail kinase 3 (LMTK3) belongs to a family of tyrosine kinases that are known to correlate with tumor grade and patient survival in some cancers. Here, we validated LMTK3 as a specific target and a prognostic biomarker in ovarian cancer (OC). In samples from 204 stage I-II OC patients, immunohistochemical studies revealed a higher cytoplasmic-to-nuclear staining intensity of LMTK3, which correlated with worse overall survival ( < 0.

A combination of Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ-THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) at non-psychoactive doses was previously demonstrated to reduce cognitive decline in APP/PS1 mice, an animal model of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the neurobiological substrates underlying these therapeutic properties of Δ-THC and CBD are not fully understood. Considering that dysregulation of glutamatergic activity contributes to cognitive impairment in AD, the present study evaluates the hypothesis that the combination of these two natural cannabinoids might reverse the alterations in glutamate dynamics within the hippocampus of this animal model of AD.

Interleukin (IL)-9 is present in atopic dermatitis (AD) lesions and is considered to be mainly produced by skin-homing T cells expressing the cutaneous lymphocyte-associated antigen (CLA). However, its induction by AD-associated triggers remains unexplored. Circulating skin-tropic CLA and extracutaneous/systemic CLA memory T cells cocultured with autologous lesional epidermal cells from AD patients were activated with house dust mite (HDM) and staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB).

Cardiogenic shock (CS) is a complex multifactorial clinical syndrome of end-organ hypoperfusion that could be associated with multisystem organ failure, presenting a diverse range of causes and symptoms. Despite improving survival in recent years due to new advancements, CS still carries a high risk of severe morbidity and mortality. Recent research has focused on improving early detection and understanding of CS through standardized team approaches, detailed hemodynamic assessment, and selective use of temporary mechanical circulatory support devices, leading to better patient outcomes.

Non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) is the most frequent type of acute coronary syndrome in the elderly. Antithrombotic therapy is the cornerstone of pharmacological therapy in the setting of an acute ischemic event, a clinical scenario in which thrombotic and bleeding risks ought to be considered, particularly in older patients. In this article, specific aspects of antithrombotic therapy in elderly patients with NSTEMI are reviewed, including pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics and different clinical situations.

Neurodegenerative diseases and brain tumours represent important health challenges due to their severe nature and debilitating consequences that require substantial medical care. Interestingly, these conditions share common physiological characteristics, namely increased glutamate, and adenosine transmission, which are often associated with cellular dysregulation and damage. Guanosine, an endogenous nucleoside, is safe and exerts neuroprotective effects in preclinical models of excitotoxicity, along with cytotoxic effects on tumour cells.

Background: Radical gastrectomy remains the main treatment for gastric cancer, despite its high mortality. A clinical predictive model of 90-day mortality (90DM) risk after gastric cancer surgery based on the Spanish EURECCA registry database was developed using a matching learning algorithm. We performed an external validation of this model based on data from an international multicenter cohort of patients.

The inflammasome regulates the innate inflammatory response and is involved in autoimmune diseases. In this study, we explored the levels of IL-18 and IL-1β in serum and urine and the influence of various single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on kidney lesions at diagnosis in patients with ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) and their clinical outcomes. Ninety-two patients with renal AAV were recruited, and blood and urine were collected at diagnosis.
