Spontaneous dissections in multiple arteries are a rare condition with clinical presentation varying from asymptomatic conditions to sudden death. We present a rare case where a routine thoracic computed tomography (CT) scan showed a type B aortic dissection. Medical records showed that the patient previously had been diagnosed with bilateral spontaneous isolated internal carotid artery dissections, which caused an attack of amaurosis fugax a few months earlier.

Background: We examined obstructive and nonobstructive plaque volumes in populations with subclinical and clinically manifested coronary artery disease (CAD) using quantitative computed tomography (QCT).
Methods: 855 participants with CAD (274 asymptomatic individuals, 254 acute chest pain patients without acute coronary syndrome (ACS), and 327 patients with ACS) underwent QCT of proximal coronary segments to assess participant-level plaque volumes of dense calcium, fibrous, fibrofatty, and necrotic core tissue.
Results: Nonobstructive (<50% stenosis) plaque volumes were greater than obstructive plaque volumes, irrespective of population (all p<0.

Objectives: To investigate the short- and long-term risks of atrioventricular block and other cardiac conduction disorders associated with being tested for Borrelia burgdorferi (Bb) antibodies or Bb seropositivity as measures of confounding by indication and Bb infection, respectively.
Methods: We performed a nationwide population-based matched cohort study (Denmark, 1993-2021). We included 52 200 Bb-seropositive individuals (stratified as only Bb-IgM-seropositive [n = 26 103], only Bb-IgG-seropositive [n = 18 698], and Bb-IgM-and-IgG-seropositive [n = 7399]) and two age- and sex-matched comparison cohorts: 104 400 Bb-seronegative individuals and 261 000 population controls.

Background: Physical therapists use tests that could determine strength and weaknesses of the shoulder for overhead throwing athletes to enhance performance, prevent injury, and safely progress rehabilitation. The Closed Kinetic Chain Upper Extremity Stability Test (CKCUEST) has been proposed to assess muscular capacity and dynamic shoulder stability in overhead athletes, which could provide information to determine a risk of injury.
Purpose: To investigate if the CKCUEST is an appropriate test to implement within team elite handball players to evaluate dynamic shoulder stability across sexes and in the screening of shoulder pain.

We present a case report detailing therapeutic application of two lytic antipseudomonal bacteriophages to treat a chronic relapsing Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection of a prosthetic aortic graft. As there are currently no Danish laboratories offering phages for clinical therapy, and this case, to our knowledge represents the first applied phage therapy in Denmark, the practical and regulatory aspects of offering this treatment option in Denmark is briefly reviewed along with the clinical case.

Objectives: Quantitative sensory testing (QST) provides an assessment of cutaneous and deep tissue sensitivity and pain perception under normal and pathological settings. Approximately 2-4% of individuals undergoing groin hernia repair (GHR) develop severe persistent postsurgical pain (PPSP). The aims of this systematic review of PPSP-patients were (1) to retrieve and methodologically characterize the available QST literature and (2) to explore the role of QST in understanding mechanisms underlying PPSP following GHR.

Background: Concomitant type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and cardiovascular disease (CVD) is frequent with a poor prognosis with high risk of comorbidities. Strict risk factor control reduces the risk for complications - yet many people do not achieve treatment targets. The complexity and fragmentation of the healthcare system may, together with the vulnerability of these patients, be a reason.

The primary purpose of treating chronic hepatitis C (HCV) is to prevent the development of liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and cancer. In the last decade, direct-acting antiviral medicine (DAA) has been approved to treat children with HCV. This treatment has a higher efficacy, shorter duration, and milder side effects than the previously approved treatment.

Intraarticular treatment of osteoarthritis with mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) has shown promising results and is being increasingly implemented in the clinic. Autologous MSCs are the primary source of therapy but issues related to cell expansion, patient age, and acute therapies have opened a need for allogenic MSCs. Problematic immunological reactions such as pain, joint swelling, urticarial, and MSC destruction are, however, reported when using allogenic MSCs at the first to second treatment.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic demonstrated the need for accurate diagnostic testing for the early detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Although the pandemic has ended, accurate assays are still needed to monitor viral spread at national levels and beyond through population and wastewater surveillance. To enhance early detection, SARS-CoV-2 assays should have high diagnostic accuracy and should be validated to assure accurate results.

Background: Metabolic effects of empagliflozin treatment include lowered glucose and insulin concentrations, elevated free fatty acids and ketone bodies and have been suggested to contribute to the cardiovascular benefits of empagliflozin treatment, possibly through an improved cardiac function. We aimed to evaluate the influence of these metabolic changes on cardiac function in patients with T2D.
Methods: In a randomized cross-over design, the SGLT2 inhibitor empagliflozin (E) was compared with insulin (I) treatment titrated to the same level of glycemic control in 17 patients with type 2 diabetes, BMI of > 28 kg/m, C-peptide > 500 pM.

Doppler ultrasound has revolutionized the assessment of organ blood flow and is widely used in research and clinical settings. While Doppler ultrasound-based assessment of contracting leg muscle blood flow is common in human studies, the reliability of this method requires further investigation. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the within-day test-retest, between-day test-retest, and inter-rater reliability of Doppler ultrasound for assessing leg blood flow during rest and graded single-leg knee-extensions (0 W, 6 W, 12 W, and 18 W), with the ultrasound probe being removed between measurements.

Home oxygen therapy is an acknowledged treatment for patients suffering from chronic hypoxaemia, due to pulmonary or cardiac disease, and may have positive effects on survival and quality of life. The risks and side effects of the treatment are usually mild, and the equipment has developed to become relatively affordable, accessible and easy to transport. Adjustments in the oxygen settings can be necessary when travelling by airplane or during physical effort or sleep.
