Purpose: This study aims to refine management strategies for malunion and nonunion of Hoffa fractures, as these rare complications present significant clinical challenges.

Methods: We conducted a case series involving seven patients with Hoffa fracture complications, including four cases of malunion and three cases of nonunion. Each patient underwent individualized surgical treatment, depending on the nature of their complication.

Research exploring the association between biofilm maturation and antibiotic resistance in orthopaedics primarily addresses aspects related to quality of life and physical function; however, little exists on life-threatening conditions and mortality.

Fractures of the proximal humerus with medial column instability are challenging and present an unacceptable rate of complications and reoperations. Despite good results reported with the use of locking plates and augmentation techniques using bone graft or a second plate, varus subsidence and fixation failure have been frequently reported. We describe the case of a patient presenting with a complex, multifragmentary proximal humerus fractures successfully treated with open anatomic reduction and internal fixation using a locking plate augmented with lateral traction using three bone anchors in the humerus head.

Proximal femur fractures in the aging population present a variety of challenges. Physiologically, patients incurring this fracture are typically frail, with significant medical comorbidities, yet require early surgical treatment to restore mobility to prevent deterioration. Socioeconomically, the occurrence of a fragility fracture may be the beginning of the loss of independence, and the burdens of rehabilitation and support are borne by the individual patient and health care systems.

Background: Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) treatment consists of using valves for drainage, as it is for hydrocephalus in general. Despite this, complications can occur, putting the patient at risk, and neurological monitoring is crucial.

Observations: A 61-year-old male, who had been diagnosed with NPH 3 years prior and was being treated with a ventriculoperitoneal shunt with a programmable valve, presented to the emergency department because of a traumatic brain injury due to a fall from standing height.

Determining the true availability of resources and understanding the level of training of surgeons involved in the treatment of patients with pelvic fractures and haemorrhagic shock is critical. In the herein study, the availability of technical, technological, and human resources for the care of this injury in Latin America region was analysed, and the preferences of orthopaedic trauma surgeons when performing interventions for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with pelvic trauma and associated haemorrhagic shock was described. A cross sectional web-based survey containing questions on knowledge, attitudes, and practices with respect to imaging resources, emergency pelvic stabilization methods, and interventions used for bleeding control was sent to 948 Latin America orthopaedic trauma surgeons treating pelvic fractures in the emergency department.

Antegrade fixation of posterior column fractures of the acetabulum is challenging due to the narrow corridor and risk of screw misplacement. Although both antegrade and retrograde lag screws have been previously described for posterior column fracture fixation, the literature lacks a standardized technique for correct and safe screw placement, especially in an antegrade fashion. This technical note aims to optimize intraoperative images during posterior screw insertion using the antegrade technique, according to predetermined landmarks to save surgical time, decrease radiation exposition, and prevent surgical complications.
