Introduction: Elderly patients hospitalized with heart failure (HF) have high mortality rates and requires specific evidence based theraphy, however there are few studies which have focused on patients older than 80 years hospitalized with HF. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the overall clinical characteristics, management, and in-hospital outcomes of elderly patients hospitalized with HF.

Methods: Journey-HF study was conducted in 37 different centers in Turkey and recruited 1606 patients who were hospitalized with HF between September 2015 and September 2016.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compares the outcomes of patients with severe aortic valve stenosis who underwent surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) versus transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) over a period from 2014 to 2018.
  • Results showed that while the SAVR group had a higher postoperative arrhythmia rate (3.7% vs. 17.5% in TAVR), the overall mortality rates (9.3% for SAVR and 5.3% for TAVR) were not significantly different.
  • Additionally, the TAVR group experienced more vascular complications (17.9% vs. 0%) and pacemaker implantations (21

Objective: Since the first World Symposium on Pulmonary Hypertension (WSPH; Geneva, 1973), pulmonary hypertension (PH) has been defined as a mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) ≥25 mm Hg measured at right heart catheterization (RHC) while at rest in the supine position. At the 6th WSPH congress (Nice, 2018), a new proposal was presented defining pre-capillary PH as mPAP >20 mm Hg, with pulmonary arterial wedge pressure (PAWP) <15 mm Hg, and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) >3 WU. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of the new definition of PH on the number of pre-capillary PH patients.
