The monitoring of micro-droplets parameters is significant to the development of droplet microfluidics. However, existing monitoring methods have drawbacks such as high cost, interference with droplet movement, and even the potential for cross-contamination. Herein, a micro-droplets monitoring method (MDMM) based on liquid-solid triboelectric nanogenerator (LS-TENG) is proposed, which can realize non-invasive and self-powered monitoring of micro-droplets in a microfluidic chip.

The patient-centered healthcare requires timely disease diagnosis and prognostic assessment, calling for individualized physiological monitoring. To assess the postoperative hemodynamic status of patients, implantable blood flow monitoring devices are highly expected to deliver real time, long-term, sensitive, and reliable hemodynamic signals, which can accurately reflect multiple physiological conditions. Herein, an implantable and unconstrained vascular electronic system based on a piezoelectric sensor immobilized is presented by a "growable" sheath around continuously growing arterial vessels for real-timely and wirelessly monitoring of hemodynamics.

Herein, a series of novel long afterglow nanophosphors BaYAlO:Eu, Nd was synthesized by the combustion method. The investigation encompassed the characterization of X-ray diffraction, morphology, chemical valence, elemental composition, and photoluminescence behavior of BaYAlO:Eu+ and BaYAlO:Eu, Nd nanoparticles. Under 365 nm excitation, BaYAlO:Eu and BaYAlO:Eu, Nd show emission bands centered at 497 nm and 492 nm, which are attributed to the 4f5d→4f transition of Eu ions.

The perception of temperature and pressure of skin plays a vital role in joint movement, hand grasp, emotional expression, and self-protection of human. Among many biomimetic materials, ionic gels are uniquely suited to simulate the function of skin due to its ionic transport mechanism. However, both the temperature and pressure sensing are heavily dependent on the changes in ionic conductivity, making it impossible to decouple the temperature and pressure signals.

Tribovoltaic nanogenerators (TVNG) represent a fantastic opportunity for developing low-frequency energy harvesting and self-powered sensing, by exploiting their real-time direct-current (DC) output. Here, a thorough study of the effect of relative humidity (RH) on a TVNG consisting of 4H-SiC (n-type) and metallic copper foil (SM-TVNG) is presented. The SM-TVNG shows a remarkable sensitivity to RH and an abnormal RH dependence.

Creating high-performance host materials for potassium (K) metal anodes remains a significant challenge due to the complex preparation process and poor K reversibility. In our work, we developed a potassiophilicity strategy using an oxygen-modified carbon cloth (O-CC) network as a host for K metal anodes. The O-CC network exhibited superior potassiophilic ability, and this improvement was also observed in other carbon hosts using the same process.

Developing self-powered smart wireless sensor networks by harvesting industrial environmental weak vibration energy remains a challenge and an impending need for enabling the widespread rollout of the industrial internet of things (IIoT). This work reports a self-powered wireless temperature and vibration monitoring system (WTVMS) based on a vibrational triboelectric nanogenerator (V-TENG) and a piezoelectric nanogenerator (PENG) for weak vibration energy collection and information sensing. Therein, the V-TENG can scavenge weak vibration energy down to 80 μm to power the system through a power management module, while the PENG is able to supply the frequency signal to the system by a comparison circuit.

Infusing human taste perception into smart sensing devices to mimic the processing ability of gustatory organs to perceive liquid substances remains challenging. Here we developed a self-powered droplet-tasting sensor system based on the dynamic morphological changes of droplets and liquid-solid contact electrification. The sensor system has achieved accuracies of liquid recognition higher than 90% in five different applications by combining triboelectric fingerprint signals and deep learning.

Double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) is a major impurity that can induce innate immune responses and cause adverse drug reactions. Removing dsRNA is an essential and non-trivial process in manufacturing mRNA. Current methods for dsRNA elimination use either high-performance liquid chromatography or microcrystalline cellulose, rendering the process complex, expensive, toxic, and/or time-consuming.

A series of long-afterglow luminescent materials (SrAlO: Eu (SAOE), SrAlO: Eu, Dy (SAOED) and SrAlO: Eu, Dy, Gd (SAOEDG)) was synthesized via the combustion method. Temperature and concentration control experiments were conducted on these materials to determine the optimal reaction temperature and ion doping concentration for each sample. The crystal structure and luminescent properties were analyzed via X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL), and afterglow attenuation curves.

Contact electrification (CE), a common physical phenomenon, is worth discussing. However, there are few reports on the influence of atmosphere on CE, or on the performance of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG), based on CE by encapsulating gas inside. Here, we propose physical processes of electron transfer to interpret the impact of the gaseous atmosphere on CE.

The recent intensification of the study of contact-electrification at water-solid interfaces and its role in physicochemical processes lead to the realization that electron transfers during water-solid contact-electrification can drive chemical reactions. This mechanism, named contact-electro-catalysis (CEC), allows chemically inert fluorinated polymers to act like single electrode electrochemical systems. This study shows hydrogen peroxide (H O ) is generated from air and deionized water, by ultrasound driven CEC, using fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) as the catalyst.

Contact electrification (CE) in water has attracted much attention, owing to its potential impacts on the chemical reactions, such as the recent discovery of spontaneous generation of hydrogen peroxide (HO) in water microdroplets. However, current studies focus on the CE of bulk water, the measurement of CE between micrometer-size water droplets is a challenge and its mechanism still remains ambiguous. Here, a method for quantifying the amount of charge carried by the water microdroplets produced by ultrasonic atomization is proposed.

Piezoelectric stick-slip driven nanopositioning stage (PSSNS) with nanometer resolution has been widely used in the field of micro-operation. However, it is difficult to achieve nanopositioning over large travel, and its positioning accuracy is affected by the hysteresis characteristics of the piezoelectric elements, external uncertain disturbances, and other nonlinear factors. To overcome the above-mentioned problems, a composite control strategy combining stepping mode and scanning mode is proposed in this paper, and an integral back-stepping linear active disturbance rejection control (IB-LADRC) strategy is proposed in the scanning mode control phase.
