The rapid development of the Internet of Things depends on wireless devices and their network. Traditional wireless sensing and transmission technology still requires multiple modules for sensing, signal modulation, transmission, and power, making the whole system bulky, rigid, and costly. Here, we proposed a paradigm shift wireless sensing solution based on the breakdown discharge–induced displacement current.

Poor room-temperature ionic conductivities and narrow electrochemical stable windows severely hinder the application of conventional poly(ethylene oxide)-based (PEO-based) solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) for high-energy-density lithium metal batteries (LMBs). Herein, we designed and synthesized a PEO-based self-healing solid polymer electrolyte (SHSPE) via dynamically cross-linked imine bonds for safe, flexible solid LMBs. The constructed dynamic networks endow this SPE with fascinating intrinsic self-healing ability and excellent mechanical properties (extensibility > 500% and stress >130 kPa).

The marine internet of things (MIoT), an increasingly important foundation for ocean development and protection, consists of a variety of marine distributed sensors under water. These sensors of the MIoT have always been highly dependent on batteries. To realize power supply, a flexible seaweed-like triboelectric nanogenerator (S-TENG) capable of harvesting wave energy is proposed in this study.

Owing to wearing and unpredictable damage, the working lifetime of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) is largely limited. In this work, we prepared a single-electrode multifunctional TENG (MF-TENG) that exhibits fast self-healing, human health monitoring capability, and photothermal properties. The device consists of a thin self-healing poly(vinyl alcohol)-based hydrogel sandwiched between two self-healing silicone elastomer films.

It is of great importance to explore a creative route to improve the degradation efficiency of organic pollutants in wastewater. Herein, we construct a unique hybrid system by combining self-powered triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) with carbon dots-TiO sheets doped three-dimensional graphene oxide photocatalyst (3DGA@CDs-TNs), which can significantly enhance the degradation efficiency of brilliant green (BG) and direct blue 5B (DB) owing to the powerful interaction of TENG and 3DGA@CDs-TNs photocatalyst. The power output of TENG can be applied for wastewater purification directly, which exhibits a self-powered electrocatalytic technology.

The development of elastic electronic technology has promoted the application of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) in flexible wearable electronics. However, most of the flexible electronics cannot achieve the requirements of being extremely stretchable, transparent, and highly conductive at the same time. Herein, we report a TENG constructed using a double-network polymer ionic conductor sodium alginate/zinc sulfate/poly acrylic-acrylamide (SA-Zn) hydrogel, which exhibited outstanding stretchability (>10,000%), high transparency (>95%), and good conductivity (0.

Discovering novel multifunctional metamaterials with energy harvesting and sensing functionalities is likely to be the next technological evolution of the metamaterial science. Here, we introduce a novel concept called self-aware composite mechanical metamaterial (SCMM) that can transform mechanical metamaterials into nanogenerators and active sensing mediums. In pursuit of this goal, we examine new paradigms where finely tailored and seamlessly integrated self-recovering snapping microstructures composed of topologically different triboelectric materials can form self-powering and self-sensing meta-tribomaterial systems.

Molybdenum disulfide, as an electronic highly-adjustable catalysts material, tuning its electronic structure is crucial to enhance its intrinsic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity. Nevertheless, there are yet huge challenges to the understanding and regulation of the surface electronic structure of molybdenum disulfide-based catalysts. Here we address these challenges by tuning its electronic structure of phase modulation synergistic with interfacial chemistry and defects from phosphorus or sulfur implantation, and we then successfully design and synthesize electrocatalysts with the multi-heterojunction interfaces (e.

Contact electrification (CE) is a common physical phenomenon, and its mechanisms for solid-solid and liquid-solid cases have been widely discussed. However, the studies about liquid-liquid CE are hindered by the lack of proper techniques. Here, a contactless method is proposed for quantifying the charges on a liquid droplet based on the combination of electric field and acoustic field.

The physical properties of clays and micas can be controlled by exchanging ions in the crystal lattice. Atomically thin materials can have superior properties in a range of membrane applications, yet the ion-exchange process itself remains largely unexplored in few-layer crystals. Here we use atomic-resolution scanning transmission electron microscopy to study the dynamics of ion exchange and reveal individual ion binding sites in atomically thin and artificially restacked clays and micas.

The phenomenon of triboelectricity involves the flow of charged species across an interface, but conclusively establishing the nature of the charge transfer has proven extremely difficult, especially for the liquid-solid cases. Herein, we developed a self-powered droplet triboelectric nanogenerator (droplet-TENG) with spatially arranged electrodes as a probe for measuring the charge transfer process between liquid and solid interfaces. The information on the electric signal on spatially arranged electrodes shows that the charge transfer between droplets and the solid is an accumulation process during the dropping and that the electron is the dominant charge-transfer species.

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) as a type of porous and crystalline covalent organic polymer are built up from covalently linked and periodically arranged organic molecules. Their precise assembly, well-defined coordination network, and tunable porosity endow COFs with diverse characteristics such as low density, high crystallinity, porous structure, and large specific-surface area, as well as versatile functions and active sites that can be tuned at molecular and atomic level. These unique properties make them excellent candidate materials for biomedical applications, such as drug delivery, diagnostic imaging, and disease therapy.

The rapid development of Internet of Things and artificial intelligence brings increasing attention on the harvesting of distributed energy by using triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG), especially the direct current TENG (DC-TENG). It is essential to select appropriate triboelectric materials for obtaining a high performance TENG. In this work, we provide a set of rules for selecting the triboelectric materials for DC-TENG based on several basic parameters, including surface charge density, friction coefficient, polarization, utilization rate of charges, and stability.

The liquid-solid triboelectric nanogenerator (LS-TENG) has been demonstrated to harvest energy efficiently through the contact electrification effect between liquid and solid triboelectric materials, which can avoid the wear issue in solid-solid TENG. However, the droplet-based LS-TENG reveals the problems that it generally works with the continuous falling droplets or needs to be fully packaged, which greatly limit its practical application. Here, a droplet-based triboelectric nanogenerator (DB-TENG) with a simple open structure is designed to effectively solve these problems.

Schottky-contacted sensors have been demonstrated to show high sensitivity and fast response time in various sensing systems. In order to improve their sensing performance, the Schottky barriers height (SBH) at the interface of semiconductor and metal electrode should be adjusted to appropriate range to avoid low output or low sensitivity, which was induced by excessively high or low SBH, respectively. In this work, a simple and effective SBH tuning method by triboelectric generator (TENG) is proposed, the SBH can be effectively lowered by voltage pulses generated by TENG and gradually recover over time after withdrawing the TENG.
