CAS Center for Excellence in Nanoscience, Beijing Key Laboratory of Micro-Nano Energy and Sensor, Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Beijing101400, People's Republic of China.

Tribovoltaic nanogenerators (TVNGs) are an emerging class of devices for high-entropy energy conversion and mechanical sensing that benefit from their outstanding real-time direct current output characteristics. Here, a self-powered TVNG was fabricated using a small-area 4H-SiC semiconductor wafer and a large-area copper foil. Thus, the cost of materials remains low compared to devices employing large-scale semiconductors.

CAS Center for Excellence in Nanoscience, Beijing Key Laboratory of Micro-Nano Energy and Sensor, Beijing Institute of Nanoenergy and Nanosystems, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 101400, China.

Solid-liquid triboelectric nanogenerators (SL-TENGs) have shown promising prospects in energy harvesting and application from water resources. However, the low contact separation speed, small contact area, and long contacting time during solid-liquid electrification severely limit their output properties and further applications. Here, by leveraging the rheological properties of gas-liquid two-phase flow and the Venturi-like design, we circumvent these limitations and develop a previously unknown gas-liquid two-phase flow-based TENG (GL-TENG) that can achieve ultrahigh voltage and volumetric charge density of 3789 volts and 859 millicoulombs per cubic meter, respectively.

Energy harvesting technologies that convert fluid energy into usable electrical energy are of great significance, especially in long-distance pipeline systems. Here, in order to avoid the collision of conventional galloping triboelectric nanogenerators (GTENGs), and cause material damage or noise, a freestanding gallop-based triboelectric-piezoelectric hybrid nanogenerator (HG P-TENG) is proposed to reduce material wear and improve the reliability of GTENG. Two piezoelectric sheets are attached to the cantilever beam.

Epidermal growth factor is an excellent drug for promoting wound healing; however, its conventional administration strategies are associated with pharmacodynamic challenges, such as low transdermal permeability, reduction, and receptor desensitization. Here, we develop a microneedle-based self-powered transcutaneous electrical stimulation system (mn-STESS) by integrating a sliding free-standing triboelectric nanogenerator with a microneedle patch to achieve improved epidermal growth factor pharmacodynamics. We show that the mn-STESS facilitates drug penetration and utilization by using microneedles to pierce the stratum corneum.

School of Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, Xidian University, Xi'an 710126, China.

Tunable devices constructed by ferroelectric thin films are often desired to possess a low dielectric loss while maintainging a high dielectric tunability over a broad operating temperature range in applications, for example, resonators, filters, or phase shifters. However, it is difficult to simultaneously achieve these characteristics by traditional strategies, such as doping and strain modifying. Here, we demonstrate that the dielectric tunability of the sol-gel-prepared Pb(ScNb)(MgNb)O (PSNMN) thin film can be almost doubled from ~47% to ~80.

Laboratory of Agricultural Information Intelligent Sensing, School of Biosystems Engineering and Food Science, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, 310058, P. R. China.

The rapid progress in distributed electronics in agriculture depends on a wide range of energy supplies, such as cables and batteries. However, cable installation and maintenance are inconvenient in the agricultural environment, and the massive use of batteries will cause high replacement costs and serious environmental issues. To mitigate these problems, a water flow-driven and high-performance triboelectric nanogenerator based on agricultural debris (including derelict plant fibers and recycled greenhouse film) (AD-TENG) is developed.

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) and dielectric elastomer generators (DEGs) are potentially promising energy conversion technologies, but they still have limitations due to their own intrinsic characteristics, including the low energy output of TENGs caused by the air breakdown effect, and external polarization voltage requirement for DEGs, which severely limit their practical applications. Herein, coupling TENG with DEG is proposed to build a mutual beneficial self-excitation hybrid generator (named TDHG) for harvesting distributed and low-quality mechanical energy (high entropy energy). Experimental results demonstrate that the output charges of this TDHG are enhanced by fivefold of that of the conventional charge-excitation TENG, and continuous operation of DEG is also realized by simple mechanical triggering.

Hence, we report a simple spraying method to produce a shape-adaptive photocatalytic (SAP) triboelectric material with both self-cleaning and shape-adaptive functions. By spraying the polyvinyl alcohol solution with TiO photocatalysts and pre-drying cyclic, the SAP film can be adapted to a varied and intricate substrate.

There is an increasing need for structural flexibility in self-powered wearable electronics and other Internet of Things (IoT), where adaptable triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) play a key role in realizing the true potential of IoT by endowing the latter with self-sustainability. Thus, in this review, the topic was restricted to the adaptive design of TENGs with structural flexibility that aims to promote the sustainable operation of various smart electronics. This review begins with an emphatical discussion of the concept of flexible electronics and TENGs, and continues with the introduction of TENG-based self-powered intelligent systems while placing the emphasis on self-powered flexible intelligent devices.

Collaborative Innovation Center for Nanomaterials & Devices, College of Physics, Qingdao University, Qingdao 266071, China. Electronic address:

Under the limitation of the carrier yield and mobility of semiconductor photocatalysts and the reaction domain, it seems that the photocatalytic efficiency cannot be greatly improved. Here, an efficient contact-electro-catalysis (CEC) system based on droplet triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is developed. Instead of using traditional semiconductor catalysts, the electric charge transferred during the electrification process of the contact between water droplets and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is used to participate in catalysis, and the output electrical signal can also monitor the degree of catalysis.

Triboelectric charge density and energy density are two crucial factors to assess the output capability of dielectric materials in a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG). However, they are commonly limited by the breakdown effect, structural parameters, and environmental factors, failing to reflect the intrinsic triboelectric behavior of these materials. Moreover, a standardized strategy for quantifying their maximum values is needed.
