As an important part of natural resources, islands support the marine economy and build a blue barrier for marine ecological civilization. However, the power supply on these islands is difficult, limiting the development of marine internet of things (IoTs). In order to break the status quo, this work applies triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) to island power supply and ecological monitoring.

School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Guangxi University, Nanning, Guangxi 530004, P. R. China.

Effective power management on the outputs of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) is critical for their practical applications due to the large impedance and unbalanced load matching. Recently proposed voltage multiplying circuits for external-charge excitation and self-charge excitation are usually unstable and require reversal for device restarting and common switched-capacitor-converters usually cause large switching losses. In this work, we fabricated a fractal structured charge-excitation circuit for TENGs using diodes and capacitors.

Reshaping the Endogenous Electric Field to Boost Wound Repair via Electrogenerative Dressing.

Adv Mater

Department of Plastic Surgery, State Key Laboratory of Trauma, Burns and Combined Injury, Southwest Hospital, Third Military Medical University (Army Medical University), Chongqing, 400038, China.

The endogenous electric field (EF) generated by transepithelial potential difference plays a decisive role in wound reepithelialization. For patients with large or chronic wounds, negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is the most effective clinical method in inflammation control by continuously removing the necrotic tissues or infected substances, thus creating a proproliferative microenvironment beneficial for wound reepithelialization. However, continuous negative-pressure drainage causes electrolyte loss and weakens the endogenous EF, which in turn hinders wound reepithelialization.

Center for Green Innovation, School of Mathematics and Physics, University of Science and Technology Beijing, Beijing 100083, China.

Triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have attracted much attention because they not only efficiently harvest energy from the surrounding environment and living organisms but also serve as multifunctional sensors toward the detection of various chemical and physical stimuli. In particular, biodegradable TENG (BD-TENG) represents an emerging type of self-powered device that can be degraded, either in physiological environments as an implantable power source without the necessity of second surgery for device retrieval, or in the ambient environment to minimize associated environmental pollution. Such TENGs or TNEG-based self-powered devices can find important applications in many scenarios, such as tissue regeneration, drug release, pacemakers, etc.

Contact between water droplets with hydrophobic surfaces is a common phenomenon at functional interfaces, and it has been extensively studied. However, quantifying the charge transfer between the liquid-solid interfacial contacting, especially for the charge density distribution throughout the movement of liquid droplet on a dielectric surface, remains to be investigated. Here, we developed a pixeled droplet triboelectric nanogenerator (pixeled droplet-TENG) array with high-density electrode array as a probe for measuring the charge transfer at a liquid-solid interface when a water drop moves on the hydrophobic surface.

Doping engineering in nanostructured carbon materials is an effective approach to modify heteroatom species and surface electronic structures. Herein, an advanced electrode material based on a honeycomb-like porous carbon matrix with tunable N-doped configurations is prepared via 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bpy)-assisted pyrolysis of SiO@ZIF-8 templates and subsequent etching treatment. Interestingly, the amounts of pyridinic-N and graphitic-N can be controlled by rationally varying the content of 4,4'-bpy which acts as the N source in the pyrolysis process.

Label-sensor is an essential component of the label printer which is becoming a most significant tool for the development of Internet of Things (IoT). However, some drawbacks of the traditional infrared label-sensor make the printer fail to realize the high-speed recognition of labels as well as stable printing. Herein, we propose a self-powered and highly sensitive tribo-label-sensor (TLS) for accurate label identification, positioning and counting by embedding triboelectric nanogenerator into the indispensable roller structure of a label printer.

The triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is regarded as an effective strategy for harvesting energy from raindrops, and is a complementary solution with solar cells to achieve all-weather energy harvesting and sustainable energy supply. However, due to the irregularity of natural rainfalls in the volume, frequency, density, and location, designing high-efficiency raindrop TENG (R-TENG) arrays faces great challenges. In this work, a highly transparent, large-area, and high-efficiency R-TENG array with rational material choice, electrode structure, and array distribution is developed for efficiently harvesting irregular raindrop energy.

The working states (p-n junction or n-n junction) can be manipulated and switched under the sophisticated modulation of triboelectric potential derived from mechanical actions, which is attributed to carriers trapping and detrapping in the graphene layer.

In this paper, a quaternary dielectric soft-contact rotary triboelectric nanogenerator (QDSR-TENG) of low frictional resistance is fabricated for combining TENG with a shape memory alloy (SMA) engine. The introduction of rabbit fur brush and FEP brush results in charge pumps with a partially soft contact structure. Benefiting from the low friction loss of the structure, the QDSR-TENG can operate stably and continually for 100k cycles without significant output degradation.
