IMDEA Nanoscience, C/Faraday 9, Campus de Cantoblanco, 28049, Madrid, Spain.

The incorporation of non-benzenoid motifs in graphene nanostructures significantly impacts their properties, making them attractive for applications in carbon-based electronics. However, understanding how specific non-benzenoid structures influence their properties remains limited, and further investigations are needed to fully comprehend their implications. Here, we report an on-surface synthetic strategy toward fabricating non-benzenoid nanographenes containing different combinations of pentagonal and heptagonal rings.

Article Synopsis
  • ESCRT-III proteins create composite polymers that help in the deformation and separation of membrane tubes during various cellular processes across different life forms.* -
  • Research using advanced imaging and modeling on a simple bacterium shows how specific ESCRT-III proteins organize into a structured division ring that efficiently splits cells.* -
  • The findings support the idea that the gradual changes in these ESCRT-III polymers act as a common method for remodeling membranes in cells.*

Collider searches for dark sectors, new particles interacting only feebly with ordinary matter, have largely focused on identifying signatures of new mediators, leaving much of dark sector structures unexplored. In particular, the existence of dark matter bound states (darkonia) remains to be investigated. This possibility could arise in a simple model in which a dark photon (A^{'}) is light enough to generate an attractive force between dark fermions.

R2TP is a highly conserved chaperone complex formed by two AAA+ ATPases, RUVBL1 and RUVBL2, that associate with PIH1D1 and RPAP3 proteins. R2TP acts in promoting macromolecular complex formation. Here, we establish the principles of R2TP assembly.

The structural evolution of multiblock thermoplastic polyurethane ureas based on two polydiols, poly(1,4-butylene adipate (PBA) and poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL), as soft blocks and two diisocyanites, 2,4-toluylene diisocyanate (TDI) and 1,6-hexamethylene diisocyanate (HMDI), as hard blocks is monitored during in situ deformation by small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering. It was shown that the urethane environment determines the crystal structure of the soft block. Consequently, two populations of crystalline domains of polydiols are formed.

Effects of long-term antibiotic treatment on mice urinary aromatic amino acid profiles.

Division of Cardiology, Department of Internal Medicine, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China.

The gut microbiota-host co-metabolites are good indicators for representing the cross-talk between host and gut microbiota in a bi-direct manner. There is increasing evidence that levels of aromatic amino acids (AAAs) are associated with the alteration of intestinal microbial community though the effects of long-term microbial disturbance remain unclear. Here we monitored the gut microbiota composition and host-microbiota co-metabolites AAA profiles of mice after gentamicin and ceftriaxone treatments for nearly 4 months since their weaning to reveal the relationship between host and microbiome in long- term microbial disturbances.

Sorafenib as an Inhibitor of RUVBL2.

Biomolecules

April 2020

Department of Biochemistry, University of Toronto, Toronto, ON M5G 1M1, Canada.

RUVBL1 and RUVBL2 are highly conserved ATPases that belong to the AAA+ (ATPases Associated with various cellular Activities) superfamily and are involved in various complexes and cellular processes, several of which are closely linked to oncogenesis. The proteins were implicated in DNA damage signaling and repair, chromatin remodeling, telomerase activity, and in modulating the transcriptional activities of proto-oncogenes such as c-Myc and β-catenin. Moreover, both proteins were found to be overexpressed in several different types of cancers such as breast, lung, kidney, bladder, and leukemia.

NMR studies on the interactions between yeast Vta1 and Did2 during the multivesicular bodies sorting pathway.

State Key Laboratory of Bioorganic and Natural Products Chemistry and Collaborative Innovation Center of Chemistry for Life Sciences, Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 345 Lingling Road, Shanghai, 200032, China.

As an AAA-ATPase, Vps4 is important for function of multivesicular bodies (MVB) sorting pathway, which involves in cellular phenomena ranging from receptor down-regulation to viral budding to cytokinesis. The activity of Vps4 is stimulated by the interactions between Vta1 N-terminus (named as Vta1NTD) and Did2 fragment (176-204 aa) (termed as Did2) or Vps60 (128-186 aa) (termed as Vps60). The structural basis of how Vta1NTD binds to Did2 is still unclear.

Background: Aortic cross-clamping during abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) open repair leads to development of ischemia-reperfusion injury. Electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy (EPR) spin-trapping is a valuable method of direct measurement of free radicals. The objective of the study was to evaluate the results of EPR as a direct method of free radical measurement and degree of inflammatory response in open operative treatment of patients with AAA and aorto-iliac occlusive disease (AIOD).

Ensembles of isotropic random matrices are defined by the invariance of the probability measure under the left (and right) multiplication by an arbitrary unitary matrix. We show that the multiplication of large isotropic random matrices is spectrally commutative and self-averaging in the limit of infinite matrix size N→∞. The notion of spectral commutativity means that the eigenvalue density of a product ABC.

Velocity and diffusion coefficient of A + A <--> A reaction fronts in one dimension.

Institute of Physics, Sachivalaya Marg, Bhubaneswar 751005, India.

We study front propagation in the reversible reaction-diffusion system A + A <--> A on a one-dimensional lattice. Extending the idea of leading particle in studying the motion of the front we write a master equation in the stochastically moving frame attached to this particle. This approach provides a systematic way to improve on estimates of front speed obtained earlier.
