Multi-inflammatory Index as a Novel Mortality Predictor in Critically Ill COVID-19 Patients.

Aim: Systemic inflammation has a crucial role in the pathogenesis and mortality of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Multi-inflammatory index (MII) is a novel index related with systemic inflammation. In this study, we investigated the relationship between MII and in-hospital mortality in COVID-19 patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).

Analysis of YouTube videos as a source of information for myocarditis during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to examine the content, reliability, and quality of YouTube video contents concerning myocarditis and its association with the COVID-19 for the first time in the literature.

Methods: The most viewed 50 videos were included in the analysis. The time since the videos were uploaded, video length, type of image (real/animation), video content, qualify of the uploaders, the number of daily and total views, likes, dislikes, comments and VPI were recorded.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the new Intrepid Hybrid tip and Active Sentry handpiece in comparison to the Intrepid Balanced tip and Centurion Ozil handpiece.

Methods: One hundred sixty-eight eyes were included in the study and randomized into Group 1 (Active Sentry handpiece + Intrepid Hybrid tip, n = 86) and Group 2 (Centurion Ozil handpiece + Intrepid Balanced tip, n = 82). Data were collected from the phaco device, including total U/S time, cumulative dissipated energy (CDE), the total number of active surge mitigation actuations (ASM actuations), torsional amplitude, torsional amplitude on time, estimated fluid of aspirated, and aspiration time.

Is there any link between atrial arrhythmias and inflammatory bowel disease?

Background: Inflammation plays an important role in the development of cardiovascular disease, including atherosclerosis and arrhythmia. The aim of this study was to evaluate atrial conduction times (ACTs) in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in which systemic chronic inflammation is evident.

Methods: In this cross-sectional, prospective, single-center study, 79 IBD patients (51 ulcerative colitis; 28 Crohn's disease) and 70 healthy controls were included.

Sonographic Evaluation of Pulmonary Interstitial Edema in Patient With Preeclampsia.

The aim of this study was to sonographically detect pulmonary edema, which is a major problem in pregnant women with preeclampsia, in the interstitial phase. We evaluated 41 preeclampsia patients and 21 control subjects prospectively. In the preeclampsia group, 26 patients had severe features, whereas the other 15 patients had none.

Results of a novel surgical technique for iridodialysis repair using an iris retractor segment.

Purpose: To describe a novel surgical technique for iridodialysis repair using an iris retractor segment and report its clinical results.

Methods: Fifty-three eyes of 53 patients who underwent iridodialysis repair using an iris retractor segment were enrolled in this retrospective study. Data recorded from patient files consisted of age, sex, degree of iridodialysis, surgical techniques, number of segments used, preoperative and postoperative corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), intraocular pressure (IOP), complications, and follow-up time.

Purpose: Acromegaly causes multiple comorbidities, including gastrointestinal disorders. The present study evaluated the frequency of hiatal hernia and other upper gastrointestinal pathologies in patients with acromegaly, given that visceromegaly and reduced nitric oxide levels in acromegaly may impact diaphragm and lower esophageal sphincter function and thus possibly the development of hiatal hernia.

Evaluation of cesarean scar after single- and double-layer hysterotomy closure: a prospective cross-sectional study.

Background: We aimed to determine if there is a difference in the size of the cesarean scar defect using saline infusion sonography (SIS) performed on the postoperative third month in patients who underwent single- or double-layered unlocked closure of their uterine incision during their first cesarean delivery.

Methods: This study was conducted as a prospective cross-sectional study between February 2015 and January 2016 in patients admitted to the labour ward of the Kanuni Sultan Suleyman Training and Research Hospital who subsequently underwent their first delivery by cesarean section. Patients with a previous history of cesarean delivery, preterm pregnancies less than 34 gestational weeks, patients lost to follow-up or those who had an IUD inserted after delivery were excluded from the study.
