Background: The aim of study was to biomechanically compare the fixation of Jones fracture using headless cannulated screw, tension band, and two Kirschner wires.
Methods: A total of 60 fourth-generation, fifth metatarsal synthetic bone models were divided into three groups according to the fixation techniques. A vertical load, oriented from plantar to dorsal and lateral to medial, was applied to the metatarsal specimen that were potted with molding material.

Objective: Gastric cancer is the second most common cancer in the world, accounting for 650,000 deaths per year, and is observed in approximately 10% of the patients diagnosed. Extracellular matrix abnormalities have been documented in gastric cancer patients. The aim of our study was to understand the role of high levels of hyaluronan, an extracellular matrix glycosaminoglycan, and its mechanistic role in gastric cancer pathobiology.

The global increase in carbapenem resistance poses a significant public health threat due to the potential emergence of multidrug-resistant pathogens and limited treatment options. To learn more about this issue and offer potential solutions, we conducted a study of carbapenem-resistant (CRPA) infections in a secondary care hospital setting. The study utilized the carbapenem inactivation method (CIM), a leading phenotypic analysis, to determine carbapenemase activity in 63 CRPA isolates.

Purpose: To investigate the potential of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based total and segmental hippocampus volume analysis in the assessment of cognitive status in Parkinson's disease (PD).
Methods: We divided participants into three groups Group A-Parkinson patients (Pp) with normal cognitive status (n = 25), Group B-Pp with dementia (n = 17), and Group C-healthy controls (n = 37). Three-dimensional T1W Fast Spoiled Gradient Recalled Echo images were used for Volbrain hippocampus subfield segmentation.

Background: Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common peripheral vestibular condition characterized by short-term vertigo attacks that significantly affect quality of life.
Objectives: Examine how well a single Epley maneuver worked in an outpatient setting for people with posterior canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (PC-BPPV) and whether they needed a second Dix-Hallpike maneuver.
Design: Prospective.

Colistin, an antibiotic of polymyxin group, has recently been increasingly used in the treatment of multidrug resistant gram-negative bacteria. However, it has serious adverse effects such as acute kidney injury (AKI). We aimed to determine the factors affecting the development of AKI due to colistin, which has serious adverse effects, such as nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity.

Unlabelled: Neurogenic inflammation is involved in the development and progression of respiratory inflammatory diseases. However, its role in community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) remains unclear. We therefore aimed to investigate plasma levels of neurogenic inflammation-related neuropeptides, calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), substance P (SP), vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and neuropeptide Y (NPY), and procalcitonin (PCT) in pediatric patients with CAP and to assess their diagnostic value in viral and bacterial/mixed pneumonia.

Objectives: Bloodstream infections (BSI) are associated with high morbidity and mortality. The aim of our study is to determine whether there is a relationship between certain risk factors such as the underlying disease, patient's medical history, or interventional procedures and multidrug resistant (MDR) bacterial infection and to determine the risk factors for mortality.
Methods: Two hundred and twenty-two outpatients and inpatients who were diagnosed with bacteremia over a 6-month period were included in the study.

Background: The present study aimed to determine the rate of vitamin D deficiency in children who presented to the pediatric endocrinology outpatient clinic in Bolu and to investigate the factors affecting vitamin D levels.
Methods: Vitamin D levels of 1008 children and adolescents were retrospectively analyzed according to age group (0-1, 1-10, and 10-18 years), gender, season, month, obesity and other diseases, and deficiency category. Moreover, calcium, phosphorus, alkaline phosphatase, and parathyroid hormone levels were evaluated.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the serum levels of mitochondrial metabolism/reactive oxygen species (ROS)-related peptides (hypoxia inducible factor-1α [HIF-1α], fibroblast growth factor-21 [FGF-21], growth differentiation factor-15 [GDF-15]) and key migraine-related neuropeptides (calcitonin gene-related peptide [CGRP], pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating peptide-38 [PACAP-38], substance P [SP], and vasoactive intestinal peptide [VIP]) during migraine attacks and to evaluate their diagnostic value in pediatric migraine.
Background: There is increasing evidence for the important role of impairment in oxidative mitochondrial metabolism in the pathophysiology of migraine. Potential biomarkers that may reflect the relationship between migraine and mitochondrial dysfunction are unclear.

Excitotoxicity and neuroinflammation are key contributors to perinatal brain injuries. Capsaicin, an active ingredient of chili peppers, is a potent exogenous agonist for transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 receptors. Although the neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects of capsaicin are well-documented, its effects on excitotoxic-induced neonatal brain injury and neuroinflammation have not previously been investigated.

Aims: To investigate the effects of different doses of esculetin on epileptiform activity, behavioral seizures, memory impairment, and cortical and hippocampal NF-κB, as a mediator of pro-inflammatory gene induction, and pro-inflammatory cytokines in penicillin- and pentylenetetrazole(PTZ)-induced seizure models in rats.
Main Methods: Different doses of esculetin (5, 10, and 20 mg/kg), and diazepam (5 mg/kg) as a positive control, were tested in penicillin- and pentylenetetrazole(PTZ)-induced seizure models. In the PTZ model, cognitive function, behavioral seizures, and cortical and hippocampal pro-inflammatory biomarkers and survival factor was evaluated.

Growing evidence indicates that the parasympathetic system is implicated in migraine headache. However, the cholinergic mechanisms in the pathophysiology of migraine remain unclear. We investigated the effects and mechanisms of cholinergic modulation and a mast cell stabilizer cromolyn in the nitroglycerin-induced in vivo migraine model and in vitro hemiskull preparations in rats.

Objective: Intensive care units (ICU) are tasked with critical care and treatment with a view to improving prognosis. The Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) is one of the most commonly used scoring systems to predict prognosis. In this context, the objective of this study is to evaluate the prognostic value of Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW), Neutrophil-Lymphocyte ratio (NLR), and C-reactive protein to albumin ratio (CAR) in predicting the prognosis and mortality in patients admitted to the ICU.
