Objectives: To evaluate the risk factors, Atlanta severity score, Balthazar-CTSI score, and disease course in patients of varying weight with acute pancreatitis (AP).

Methods: A retrospective evaluation was made of normal weight (NW), overweight (OW), and obese (OB) patients (n:1134) with respect to demographic findings, diabetes (DM)/hypertension, smoking/alcohol use, etiologies, laboratory findings, Balthazar/Atlanta severity scores, and disease outcomes. After consistency and associations among the BMI, Balthazar, and Atlanta groups were evaluated, combined effects of risk factors on mortality, hospital and ICU stays were re-examined statistically.

Transplacental trafficking of maternal and fetal cells during pregnancy establishes long-term reciprocal microchimerism in both mother and child. Consequently, the maternal immune system may become sensitized to paternal histocompatibility antigens. It has been hypothesized that mother's "exposure" to paternal HLA haplotype antigens during pregnancy may affect the outcome of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) when the mother serves as a donor for the child.

February 2022

Department of Clinical Hematology and Cellular Therapy, Saint-Antoine Hospital, AP-HP, Sorbonne University, Paris, France; Sorbonne University, INSERM, Saint-Antoine Research Centre, Paris, France.

Cyclosporine A (CSA) and methotrexate (MTX) is the standard graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis regimen for matched sibling donor (MSD) allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT). Recently, post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PTCy) has been shown to be effective in GVHD prevention. In this registry-based study, we compared outcomes of 118 patients treated with PTCy and 1202 patients with CSA/MTX who underwent MSD allo-HCT for acute myelogenous leukemia.

Background: Galactose-deficient IgA1 (Gd-IgA1) has an increased tendency to form immunocomplexes with IgG in the serum, contributing to IgAN pathogenesis by accumulating in the glomerular mesangium. Several studies showed that glomerular IgG deposition in IgAN is an important cause of mesangial proliferation and glomerular damage. This study aims to determine the association of the positivity of IgG and the intensity of IgG staining with a poor renal prognosis.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the independent risk factors for 28-day mortality in critically ill COVID-19 patients in intensive care, finding that factors like sepsis, acute kidney injury, and high chest CT scores significantly increase the risk.
  • - A total of 249 patients were analyzed, with a high 28-day mortality rate of 67.9%; deceased patients had a median age of 75 and were primarily male.
  • - The research highlights the importance of early detection of risk factors to potentially improve outcomes for COVID-19 patients in severe conditions.
