J Pediatr Endocrinol Metab

August 2024

Department of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, Faculty of Medicine, Ege University, Izmir, Türkiye.

Objectives: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a group of phenotypically and genetically heterogeneous connective tissue disorders that share similar skeletal anomalies causing bone fragility and deformation. This study aimed to investigate the molecular genetic etiology and to determine the relationship between genotype and phenotype in OI patients with whole exome sequencing (WES).

Use of Cervical Fascia to Prevent Pharyngocutaneus Fistula After Total Laryngectomy.

Laryngoscope

December 2024

Department of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery, Cigli Training and Research Hospital, Bakircay University Faculty of Medicine, Izmir, Turkey.

Article Synopsis
  • * Data from 43 patients showed a significantly lower PCF rate in the group that received cervical fascia flaps (4.5%) compared to those who did not (33.3%).
  • * The cervical fascia flap method proved to be effective, technically simpler, and cost-effective for reducing PCF rates in laryngectomy patients.

Clinical practice guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of scabies.

Int J Dermatol

December 2024

Parasitology Unit, Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, the Kuvin Center for the Study of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, The Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School, Jerusalem, Israel.

Scabies, caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei var hominis mite burrowing into the skin, is a highly contagious disease characterized by intense nocturnal itching. Its global impact is considerable, affecting more than 200 million individuals annually and posing significant challenges to healthcare systems worldwide. Transmission occurs primarily through direct skin-to-skin contact, contributing to its widespread prevalence and emergence as a substantial public health concern affecting large populations.

Background: It has been reported that High-Fructose (HF) consumption, considered one of the etiological factors of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS), causes changes in the gut microbiota and metabolic disorders. There is limited knowledge on the effects of metformin in HF-induced intestinal irregularities in male and female rats with MetS.

Objectives: In this study, we investigated the sex-dependent effects of metformin treatment on the gut microbiota, intestinal Tight Junction (TJ) proteins, and inflammation parameters in HF-induced MetS.

Background: Healthcare-associated infections cause high mortality and morbidity, and lack of stethoscope disinfection is one of the reasons for healthcare-associated infections. Nurses who frequently use stethoscopes in the clinic do not disinfect stethoscopes at high rates. This study aimed to identify the frequency of stethoscope disinfection by nurses and their knowledge about the same.

  • This study looked at how certain health factors in cows affect the number of embryos they produce when they are given special treatments.
  • Researchers used 18 cows and monitored different substances in their blood to see any patterns.
  • They found that some levels in the blood were connected to how many embryos were made, meaning keeping cows healthy can really help with producing more embryos!

Novel Tb³⁺-Doped LaAl₂B₄O₁₀ phosphors: Structural analysis, luminescent properties, and energy transfer mechanism.

Appl Radiat Isot

August 2024

Jazan University, College of Science, Department of Physical Sciences, Physics Division, P.O. Box 114, 45142, Jazan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Electronic address:

This study explores the structural and luminescent properties of terbium (Tb³⁺)-doped lanthanum aluminium borate (LaAl₂B₄O₁₀, abbreviated as LAB) phosphors, a novel host lattice for Tb³⁺ doping. LAB:Tb³⁺ phosphors, with varying dopant concentrations, were synthesized using a microwave-assisted combustion synthesis approach and characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Rietveld refinement, and photoluminescence spectroscopy at both room and low temperatures. The structural analysis confirmed the hexagonal crystal structure of LAB and revealed successful incorporation of Tb³⁺ ions without altering the fundamental lattice.
