Extracorporeal perfusion of organs has a wide range of clinical applications like prolonged vital storage of organs, isolated applications of drugs, bridging time to transplant, and free composite tissue transfer without anastomosis, but there are a limited number of experimental models on this topic. This study aimed to develop and evaluate a human extracorporeal free flap perfusion model using an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation device. Five patients undergoing esthetic abdominoplasty participated in this study.

New-generation oral anticoagulants (NOACs) are now preferred as a first-line treatment in the management of atrial fibrillation for prevention of thromboembolic complications. Mean platelet volume (MPV), one of the indicators of increased platelet activity, is also associated with an increased stroke risk in atrial fibrillation patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in MPV, platelet distribution width (PDW) and plateletcrit following use of NOACs.

To determine if near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), which is easier to obtain than Doppler ultrasonography (USG), may be used in accordance with Doppler USG to provide additional data for assessment of organ blood flow velocities in preterm infants with hemodynamically significant PDA. Thirty-one infants who were treated with ibuprofen for closure of PDA were monitored continuously with NIRS. Cerebral, mesenteric, and renal arterial blood flow velocities were measured with Doppler USG before and after the treatment.

BACKGROUND Amyloidosis is a protein-misfolding disease characterized by the deposition of aggregated proteins in the form of abnormal fibrils that disrupt tissue structure, ultimately causing disease. Amyloidosis is very frequent in untreated familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) patients and it is the most important feature that determines the prognosis of FMF disease. The mean platelet volume (MPV) in FMF has been previously studied.

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is an uncommon primary neuroendocrine carcinoma of the skin. Nowadays, pathologists are required to perform immunohistochemistry to demonstrate neuroendocrine and epithelial differentiation for diagnosis of MCC. Insulinoma-associated protein 1 (INSM1) is a zinc-finger transcription factor expressed in tissues undergoing terminal neuroendocrine differentiation, and INSM1 immunohistochemistry is a well-validated nuclear marker of neuroendocrine differentiation.
