Resected gastric volume/number of staplers fired ratio as a tool in predicting complication and midterm results in sleeve gastrectomy.

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a restrictive surgery that aims to decrease the gastric volume of the patient. This study hypothesized that a higher resected gastric volume to the number of fired staplers ratio is associated with improved postoperative 12th-month outcomes. To analyze the effects of resected gastric volume to the number of fired staplers ratio on postoperative results in patients who underwent sleeve gastrectomy.

Effectiveness of reverse first dorsal metatarsal artery flap for reconstruction of distal foot in electrical injuries.

Introduction: The severity of electrical injuries depends on the voltage, the duration of exposure to current, and the trajectory of the current through the body. The reconstruction for defects caused by electric current is a difficult process.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the reverse first dorsal metatarsal artery (FDMA) flap in the reconstruction of distal foot injuries caused by electric currents.

Diagnosing and Treating Preseptal Cellulitis in Pediatric Patients After a Minor Trauma.

Preseptal cellulitis is a commonly observed inflammation of the eyelid and the surrounding skin in pediatric patients, especially after a minor trauma. Although preseptal cellulitis is generally associated with a more favorable prognosis, it is vital to remember that all orbital infections require prompt diagnosis and treatment because of the risk of severe complications. Inadequate or failure to adhere to the treatment plan and unmet hygiene standards can lead to severe complications; therefore, diligent follow-up care should be undertaken by both the physician and the patient.

Evaluation of infants administered prophylactic intravenous immunoglobulin following exposure to measles.

Introduction: Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is an alternative for post-exposure prophylaxis if a vaccine is contraindicated and intramuscular immunoglobulin is unavailable. We retrospectively examined the effect of IVIG administration time on measles development in measles-contact infants younger than 6 months of age.

Methodology: Contact tracing of measles cases was performed by the Istanbul Public Health Directorate (IPHD) between August 24, 2012, and June 16, 2013.

Effect of Dexamethasone on Postoperative Analgesia Following the Transversus Abdominis Plane Block in Gynecological Laparotomies.

Purpose: Postoperative pain is an acute pain that begins with surgical trauma and decreases as the tissue heals. The transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is one of the abdominal field blocks used in the treatment of acute postoperative pain after lower abdominal surgery. This study aims to investigate the effects of dexamethasone added to a local anesthetic solution on postoperative analgesia in ultrasonography-guided TAP block.

Lactate, lactate clearance, and lactate-to-albumin ratio in predicting mortality in patients with critical polytrauma: A retrospective observational study.

Lactate is a product of anaerobic metabolism used to determine prognosis in critically ill trauma patients. This study investigates the mortality-predictive performance of lactate, lactate clearance, and lactate-to-albumin ratio (LAR) on admission in patients with polytrauma in a tertiary center's intensive care unit (ICU). Polytrauma patients in the ICU between June 2019 and June 2022 were evaluated.

Evaluation of corporate experiences during the accreditation process in the field of health - A qualitative study.

Objective: In our study, we attempted to determine the accreditation process experience of hospital senior managers accredited by the Turkish Health Care Quality and Accreditation Institute (TUSKA). Along with the institutions' accomplishments through the accreditation program, the major challenges they faced during the accreditation process were revealed.

Methods: One of the qualitative research designs used was interpretive phenomenological analysis, which was carried out through semi-structured interviews with hospital senior managers.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the convolutional neural networks in the diagnosis of cervical myelopathy (CM) compared with conventional cervical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).  This was a cross-sectional descriptive analytical study.

Comparison of Hematological Markers between Right Ureteral Stone and Acute Appendicitis.

Referrals to emergency services are frequently made for acute appendicitis and renal colic. This conundrum of patients with acute appendicitis and right ureteral stones frequently presents itself to emergency physicians. The hematological parameters of patients suffering from acute appendicitis and right ureteral stones were compared in this study.

Dysfunction of PTEN-Associated MicroRNA Regulation: Exploring Potential Pathological Links in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus.

Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) is an autoimmune disease with T cell-mediated pathogenesis of pancreatic β-cell destruction, leading to insulin deficiency. MicroRNAs such as miR-223 and miR-106b, along with PTEN, have been reported to participate in the pathophysiology of diabetes and its complications. The current study has explored the expression of miR-223, miR-106b, and PTEN and their association with various clinical and biochemical parameters in subjects diagnosed with T1DM.

Retrospective analysis of hemophilia B in Turkey: identifying main characteristics and treatment options.

Background: Hemophilia B (HB), an X-linked recessive inherited bleeding disorder, exhibits a high prevalence among males.

Objectives: To present the first national cohort of persons with HB to define the demographics, clinical characteristics, and treatment patterns in Turkey.

Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study included 433 alive persons with HB registered in 35 centers between 1961 and 2018.

Objective: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between bone mineral density, vitamin D level, and sleep quality in female patients with osteoporosis.

Methods: This descriptive correlational study included a total of 318 women diagnosed with osteoporosis. The data were collected using a patient identification form, including items for the plasma vitamin D level and bone mineral density score obtained by the dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry method, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index.

The Associations between Asprosine, Clusterin, Zinc Alpha-2-Glycoprotein, Nuclear Factor Kappa B, and Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Gamma in the Development of Complications in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

: The aim of this study was to investigate the circulating levels of asprosin, clusterin, zinc-alpha-2-glycoprotein (ZAG), nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB), and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPAR-γ) in patients with T2DM in relation to microvascular and macrovascular complications. Measuring these biomarkers may provide insight into the pathophysiology of T2DM and indicate novel targets for the therapy of diabetes-related complications. : A total of 260 subjects consisting of four groups: healthy controls (Group-1), T2DM patients without complications (Group-2), T2DM patients with microvascular complications (Group-3), and T2DM patients with macrovascular complications (Group-4).

HCV genotype distribution in Istanbul: A detailed 7 year epidemiological overview and impact of Covid-19 pandemic.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a leading cause of chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide. HCV has 8 genotypes (GT) and 86 subtypes and distribution of GTs varies based on geographical regions, transmission routes and even in cultural groups. The determination of viral genotype is crucial in choosing antiviral treatment, determining the duration of therapy, and monitoring treatment respose.

A Case-Control Study of the Correlation Between Blood Parameters and Obesity.

Background:  Obesity has become a global health crisis in adults, and is linked to conditions like diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer. This study explored associations between body mass index (BMI) and laboratory parameters in healthy individuals to identify risk factors and guide targeted interventions in Turkey. It was found that screening and lifestyle changes can help prevent and manage obesity-related health issues.

Hypersensitivity myocarditis induced by isoniazid overdose in a 15-year-old girl: a case report.

Introduction: Myocarditis represents a diverse group of inflammatory diseases affecting the heart muscle, with both infectious and non-infectious etiologies. Among the non-infectious causes, drug-induced hypersensitivity reactions are rare but serious. Isoniazid, a cornerstone in tuberculosis treatment, is known for its hepatotoxicity but has rarely been documented to cause hypersensitivity myocarditis.
