Challenges and effectiveness of remote neurological follow-up of children with concussion following TBI using telemedicine.

Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) in children, including concussion, is one of the major causes of emergency department (ED) registration and a significant burden on the health system.

Objectives: The primary goal of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of a telemedicine strategy for remotely monitoring the children with traumatic brain concussions, focusing on their neurological symptoms and signs. The secondary goal was to explore socioeconomic and educational differences among the participating families.

Comparison of Preoperative and Postoperative Conventional and Speckle Tracking Echocardiographic Parameters in Living Liver Donors.

Introduction We aimed to assess whether partial hepatectomy has an influence on conventional and speckle tracking parameters on echocardiography in living liver donors in the early postoperative period. Methods This study was a retrospective study to investigate the cardiac effects of liver donation after the transplant operation in a high-volume liver transplant center. Ninety living liver donors were included in the study.

Evaluating the utility of large language models in generating search strings for systematic reviews in anesthesiology: a comparative analysis of top-ranked journals.

Background: This study evaluated the effectiveness of large language models (LLMs), specifically ChatGPT 4o and a custom-designed model, Meta-Analysis Librarian, in generating accurate search strings for systematic reviews (SRs) in the field of anesthesiology.

Methods: We selected 85 SRs from the top 10 anesthesiology journals, according to Web of Science rankings, and extracted reference lists as benchmarks. Using study titles as input, we generated four search strings per SR: three with ChatGPT 4o using general prompts and one with the Meta-Analysis Librarian model, which follows a structured, Population, Intervention, Comparator, Outcome-based approach aligned with Cochrane Handbook standards.

Turkish Adaptation of QLQ-SH22 Quality of Sexual Life Assessment Scale in Cancer Patients - Validity and Reliability Study.

Objectives: Cancer or its treatment can have direct or indirect effects on sexual functions. Routine assessment of sexual functioning is essential in cancer patients to identify sexual problems and provide counseling to patients about these issues. This study aimed to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Questionnaire - Sexual Health 22 prepared for the assessment of sexual function in cancer patients.

Severe pertussis infections in pediatric intensive care units: a multicenter study.

Unlabelled: This study aims to evaluate the clinical course of critical pertussis illness to the pediatric intensive care unit in Istanbul. The study was conducted as a multicenter, retrospective study between January 1, 2023, and December 31, 2023. Cases with positive polymerase chain reaction testing for Bordetella pertussis of nasopharyngeal swab samples within the first 24 h of pediatric intensive care unit admission were recorded.

The Effect of Nurses' Professional Values on Missed Nursing Care: The Mediating Role of Moral Sensitivity.

The aim of this study is to determine the mediating role of moral sensitivity in the effect of nurses' professional values on missed nursing care. A descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 640 nurses working in the inpatient units of a public and a private hospital with the MISSCARE Survey-Turkish, the Moral Sensitivity Questionnaire, and the Revised Nursing Professional Values Scale. Data analyses were performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences 26.

Noninvasive Approach to Postoperative Bleeding in Patients Undergoing Septorhinoplasty Surgery.

Objectives: In this study, we retrospectively examined the bleeding that occurred in the 5-year patient series.

Materials And Methods: One thousand seven hundred seventy-five patients who underwent septorhinoplasty surgery between 2019 and 2023 were included in the study, and 28 of these patients who presented with bleeding complications were examined. All patients underwent open-technique septorhinoplasty surgery with or without concha intervention and were discharged the next day after overnight hospitalization.

A pathway for nurses from work strain to anger: mediation of social intelligence.

Background: This study aimed to determine the mediating role of social intelligence in the effect of nurses' work-related strain on trait anger and anger expressions. The challenging working conditions for nurses often result in increased strain and anger. Social intelligence could help to manage anger.

[Multicentric Screening of Local Antibiotic Resistance in Uncomplicated Urinary System Infections: 1850 Patients from 37 Centers].

This study was aimed to identify the most frequently observed pathogens in uncomplicated urinary tract infections from outpatient urinary isolates obtained across seven different geographical regions in Türkiye and to determine whether the antibiotic resistance rates of these pathogens differ significantly between these regions. The study included patients aged 18 to 65 years who were diagnosed with uncomplicated urinary tract infections and had positive urine cultures from March 2021 to August 2022, across 37 different centers in Türkiye. The participating centers were selected based on their use of the disk diffusion method, in line with the European Committee on Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (EUCAST) guidelines, to ensure standardization of urine culture data.

Comparative evaluation of peptide vs. protein-based calibration for quantification of cardiac troponin I using ID-LC-MS/MS.

Objectives: An analytical protocol based on isotope dilution liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (ID-LC-MS/MS), which includes a peptide-based calibration strategy, was developed and validated for the determination of cardiac troponin I (cTnI) levels in clinical samples. Additionally, the developed method was compared with a protein-based calibration strategy, using cTnI serving as a model for low-abundant proteins. The aim is to evaluate new approaches for protein quantification in complex matrices, supporting the metrology community in implementing new methods and developing fit-for-purpose SI- traceable peptide or protein primary calibrators.

Resected gastric volume/number of staplers fired ratio as a tool in predicting complication and midterm results in sleeve gastrectomy.

Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy is a restrictive surgery that aims to decrease the gastric volume of the patient. This study hypothesized that a higher resected gastric volume to the number of fired staplers ratio is associated with improved postoperative 12th-month outcomes. To analyze the effects of resected gastric volume to the number of fired staplers ratio on postoperative results in patients who underwent sleeve gastrectomy.

Effectiveness of reverse first dorsal metatarsal artery flap for reconstruction of distal foot in electrical injuries.

Introduction: The severity of electrical injuries depends on the voltage, the duration of exposure to current, and the trajectory of the current through the body. The reconstruction for defects caused by electric current is a difficult process.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of the reverse first dorsal metatarsal artery (FDMA) flap in the reconstruction of distal foot injuries caused by electric currents.

Evaluation of infants administered prophylactic intravenous immunoglobulin following exposure to measles.

Introduction: Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) is an alternative for post-exposure prophylaxis if a vaccine is contraindicated and intramuscular immunoglobulin is unavailable. We retrospectively examined the effect of IVIG administration time on measles development in measles-contact infants younger than 6 months of age.

Methodology: Contact tracing of measles cases was performed by the Istanbul Public Health Directorate (IPHD) between August 24, 2012, and June 16, 2013.

Effect of Dexamethasone on Postoperative Analgesia Following the Transversus Abdominis Plane Block in Gynecological Laparotomies.

Purpose: Postoperative pain is an acute pain that begins with surgical trauma and decreases as the tissue heals. The transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is one of the abdominal field blocks used in the treatment of acute postoperative pain after lower abdominal surgery. This study aims to investigate the effects of dexamethasone added to a local anesthetic solution on postoperative analgesia in ultrasonography-guided TAP block.

LesionScanNet: dual-path convolutional neural network for acute appendicitis diagnosis.

Acute appendicitis is an abrupt inflammation of the appendix, which causes symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, and fever. Computed tomography (CT) is a useful tool in accurate diagnosis of acute appendicitis; however, it causes challenges due to factors such as the anatomical structure of the colon and localization of the appendix in CT images. In this paper, a novel Convolutional Neural Network model, namely, LesionScanNet for the computer-aided detection of acute appendicitis has been proposed.

Lactate, lactate clearance, and lactate-to-albumin ratio in predicting mortality in patients with critical polytrauma: A retrospective observational study.

Lactate is a product of anaerobic metabolism used to determine prognosis in critically ill trauma patients. This study investigates the mortality-predictive performance of lactate, lactate clearance, and lactate-to-albumin ratio (LAR) on admission in patients with polytrauma in a tertiary center's intensive care unit (ICU). Polytrauma patients in the ICU between June 2019 and June 2022 were evaluated.

Evaluation of corporate experiences during the accreditation process in the field of health - A qualitative study.

Objective: In our study, we attempted to determine the accreditation process experience of hospital senior managers accredited by the Turkish Health Care Quality and Accreditation Institute (TUSKA). Along with the institutions' accomplishments through the accreditation program, the major challenges they faced during the accreditation process were revealed.

Methods: One of the qualitative research designs used was interpretive phenomenological analysis, which was carried out through semi-structured interviews with hospital senior managers.

 Artificial intelligence technologies have been used increasingly in spine surgery as a diagnostic tool. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the convolutional neural networks in the diagnosis of cervical myelopathy (CM) compared with conventional cervical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).  This was a cross-sectional descriptive analytical study.

Comparison of Hematological Markers between Right Ureteral Stone and Acute Appendicitis.

Referrals to emergency services are frequently made for acute appendicitis and renal colic. This conundrum of patients with acute appendicitis and right ureteral stones frequently presents itself to emergency physicians. The hematological parameters of patients suffering from acute appendicitis and right ureteral stones were compared in this study.

Dysfunction of PTEN-Associated MicroRNA Regulation: Exploring Potential Pathological Links in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus.

Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) is an autoimmune disease with T cell-mediated pathogenesis of pancreatic β-cell destruction, leading to insulin deficiency. MicroRNAs such as miR-223 and miR-106b, along with PTEN, have been reported to participate in the pathophysiology of diabetes and its complications. The current study has explored the expression of miR-223, miR-106b, and PTEN and their association with various clinical and biochemical parameters in subjects diagnosed with T1DM.

Retrospective analysis of hemophilia B in Turkey: identifying main characteristics and treatment options.

Background: Hemophilia B (HB), an X-linked recessive inherited bleeding disorder, exhibits a high prevalence among males.

Objectives: To present the first national cohort of persons with HB to define the demographics, clinical characteristics, and treatment patterns in Turkey.

Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study included 433 alive persons with HB registered in 35 centers between 1961 and 2018.
