The Role of Biomarkers in the Early Diagnosis of Gastric Cancer: A Study on CCR5, CCL5, PDGF, and EphA7.

Despite the use of screening programs, gastric cancer (GC) diagnosis may only be possible at an advanced stage. In this study, we examined the serum levels of C-C chemokine receptor type 5 (CCR5), C-C motif chemokine ligand 5 (CCL5), platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), and EphrinA7 (EphA7) in patients with gastric carcinoma and healthy controls to investigate the significance and usability of these potential biomarkers in the early diagnosis of GC. The study enrolled 69 GC patients and 40 healthy individuals.

Comparison of State-Trait Anxiety and Fear of Childbirth According to Attachment Styles of Pregnant Women.

Aims/background: Fear of childbirth (FoC) and its extreme form, tokophobia, is a clinical condition that can lead to many negative consequences, and its importance is increasingly understood. This article aims to assess the severity of FoC and anxiety levels according to different attachment styles and to investigate the relationships between these factors.

Aims: Sentinel lymph node dissection is performed in endometrial cancer surgery instead of staging surgery, particularly when the disease is advanced and confined to the uterus. The aim of this study is to share our sentinel lymph node detection rates via the vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery method with the literature and to demonstrate a safer and more comfortable surgical treatment process.

All-cause mortality and related factors in patients with varying degrees of peripheral blood eosinophilia.

The aim of this study was to investigate all-cause mortality rates and related factors in patients with different levels of eosinophilia. This retrospective cohort study was conducted between January 2020 and December 2022 in the Internal Medicine Department of Dr Sadi Konuk Training and Research Hospital, Istanbul, Turkiye. A total of 161 patients with eosinophilia (at least 3 times) were included and divided into groups with absolute eosinophil counts of 500-999/µL (mild), 1000-1500/µL (moderate), and >1500/µL (severe).

Background And Aim: Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) incidence has recently increased in younger individuals. With time, given the nature of the disease and available therapies, as well as the existing paucity and inconsistency of advice, worries about fertility have surfaced. With all these clear unknowns, we designed this study to raise awareness among both physicians and CML patients about whether male and female patients of childbearing age were using contraception at the time of diagnosis, and if so, which methods they were using.

Perceptions and Expectations: A Study on Prognostic Perception and Quality of Life in Patients With Metastatic Renal and Bladder Cancer.

Purpose: Durable complete response rates for metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC) and metastatic bladder cancer (mBC) are low despite new therapy. Palliative care focuses on life extension and quality of life (QoL), not cure. This study aims to investigate patients' perceptions of treatment outcomes in mRCC and mBC and to assess the influence of QoL and optimism levels on these perceptions.

Determining the prognostic value of CRP and neutrophil lymphocyte ratio in patients hospitalized for deep neck infection.

Objectives: This study aims to assess the impact of the Neutrophil/Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) and C-Reactive Protein (CRP), both markers of systemic inflammation, on the duration of hospitalization for Deep Neck Infections (DNIs).

Methods: The research encompassed patients of all age groups admitted between January 2016 and January 2021 due to DNIs. Patient data, including demographic details, etiology, comorbidities, radiological findings, treatment specifics, laboratory results (CRP values, leukocyte counts, neutrophil counts, lymphocyte counts, NLR), culture outcomes, length of stay, complications, mortalities were retrospectively evaluated.

Background: Despite advancements in percutaneous and surgical revascularization techniques, nearly 20% of patients who undergo myocardial revascularization need repeat revascularization. Recently, identified as a prognostication factor for adverse cardiovascular events, the uric acid/albumin ratio (UAR) serves as a new marker for assessing inflammation and oxidative stress. Evaluation of Distal Tibiofibular Synostosis Formation and Risk Factors After Surgically Treated Ankle Fractures: A Single Centre Study.

This study aimed to evaluate the occurrence of partial bridging and synostosis in the distal tibiofibular joint after surgically treated ankle fractures and determine possible risk factors. In this retrospective study, patients admitted to our hospital with ankle trauma between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2020, who were operated on for an ankle fracture and had a follow-up period of at least 1 year, were included. Patients underwent anteroposterior, lateral, and mortise radiographs of the ankle and low-dose computed tomography postoperatively.

Investigation of Predictors of Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome After Endourological Procedure of Upper Urinary Tract Stones.

In order to prevent infectious complications following endourological procedure of upper urinary tract stones, it is essential to determine which patients are at high risk of developing this complication. We aimed to identify predictors that may cause systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) after the endourological procedure of upper urinary tract stones. Patients who underwent percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PNL), flexible ureteroscopy (F-URS), or semirigid ureteroscopy (SR-URS) in our center between January 2011 and June 2020 were evaluated retrospectively.

Long-term comparison of rotational and directional atherectomy outcomes in patients with femoropopliteal lesions.

This study aims to elucidate the differences in vessel patency rates, procedural complications, and the need for repeat interventions between these two techniques, thereby providing insights into the optimal atherectomy strategy for managing peripheral arterial disease in the femoropopliteal segment. This retrospective study investigated the long-term effectiveness of two atherectomy techniques, rotational atherectomy (RA) and directional atherectomy (DA), in treating lower extremity peripheral artery disease (LE-PAD) affecting the superficial femoral artery (SFA) and popliteal arteries. A total of 134 patients with symptomatic LE-PAD and significant stenosis (70%-99%) were included and divided into two groups based on the atherectomy method used.

Combining Innovative Techniques: Total Extraperitoneal Approach in Orthopedic Surgery (O-TEP) and Percutaneous Both Column Screw (BCS) Fixation Technique in a Geriatric Acetabular Fracture Case.

The concepts of both column fixation corridor (BCFC) and both column screws (BCS) along with the orthopedic total extraperitoneal approach (O-TEP) are highly innovative approaches in orthopedic surgery. However, the orthopedic literature lacks sufficient studies on these topics, indicating a significant gap. This case report aims to highlight how combining these innovative techniques can facilitate the use of BCFC and BCS in the treatment of acetabular fractures with O-TEP, thereby enhancing the feasibility of endoscopic techniques.

Relationship Between CHA₂DS₂-VASc Score on Admission and In-Hospital Major Adverse Cardiovascular Events in Patients Diagnosed With ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction.

The CHA₂DS₂-VASc (congestive heart failure, hypertension, age, diabetes mellitus, stroke, vascular disease, sex) scoring system, which includes conventional risk factors of coronary artery disease, was originally created to quantify the risk of thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation. This study evaluated the usefulness of this score to predict adverse outcomes in STEMI (ST-elevation myocardial infarction) patients without atrial fibrillation. Primary end points were identified as MACE (major adverse cardiovascular events) which included in-hospital death or cerebrovascular accident.

The Effect of Spinal Needle Type on Post-Dural Puncture Headache in Spinal Anesthesia: Prospective Randomized Study.

Background:  Postdural puncture headache is a headache that occurs after a dura puncture, especially in caesarean sections, and afects patient comfort and mobilization. In this study, we compared the efects of pencil-tipped spinal needles and especially curved, bilateral atraumatic spinal needles in individuals undergoing elective caesarean sections.

Methods:  A total of 886 patients, aged 20-50 years, who had cesarean sections with spinal anesthesia and had American Society of Anesthesiologists II and III scores, were included in the study.
