Clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential and the risk of pulmonary embolism: an observational study.

Background: Pulmonary embolism causes a substantial burden of morbidity and mortality. Although there are several well-established risk factors for pulmonary embolism, a substantial proportion of cases cannot be attributed to provoked or known risk factors. Accumulating evidence has suggested an association of clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) with the risk of arterial thromboembolism.

Trustworthiness of a machine learning early warning model in medical and surgical inpatients.

Objectives: In the general hospital wards, machine learning (ML)-based early warning systems (EWSs) can identify patients at risk of deterioration to facilitate rescue interventions. We assess subpopulation performance of a ML-based EWS on medical and surgical adult patients admitted to general hospital wards.

Materials And Methods: We assessed the scores of an EWS integrated into the electronic health record and calculated every 15 minutes to predict a composite adverse event (AE): all-cause mortality, transfer to intensive care, cardiac arrest, or rapid response team evaluation.

A novel multi-level 3D pose estimation framework for gait detection of Parkinson's disease using monocular video.

Introduction: Parkinson's disease (PD) is characterized by muscle stiffness, bradykinesia, and balance disorders, significantly impairing the quality of life for affected patients. While motion pose estimation and gait analysis can aid in early diagnosis and timely intervention, clinical practice currently lacks objective and accurate tools for gait analysis.

Methods: This study proposes a multi-level 3D pose estimation framework for PD patients, integrating monocular video with Transformer and Graph Convolutional Network (GCN) techniques.

Idiopathic Annular Ventricular Arrhythmias.

Idiopathic arrhythmias originating from the mitral and tricuspid annuli are commonly encountered in clinical practice. This review focuses on distinguishing features of ventricular arrhythmias arising from these structures and the importance of distinguishing idiopathic arrhythmias from those associated with structural heart disease. Enhancing social communication behaviors in children with autism: the impact of dog training intervention on verbal and non-verbal behaviors.

Introduction: This study investigated the impact of dog training intervention (DTI) on verbal, non-verbal, and maladaptive behaviors in autistic preschoolers. Previous research has demonstrated the benefits of animal-assisted interventions, but this study specifically focused on changes during the DTI.

Methods: We analyzed video recordings of 37 autistic children (mean age 4:7 years, SD = 1:1) from special education preschools, comparing their behaviors during the initial and final intervention sessions.

The goal of this paper was to adapt and validated to be used in a broader work context an OCB scale (CCOE-R) initially developed for the Portuguese specific professional context, schools and the education sector.

Can motor competence be influenced by the type of training interventions preschool children are exposed to? A randomized experimental study comparing sports games and psychomotricity activities.

Introduction: This study aimed to compare the effects of structured sports games (SG) and psychomotricity activities (PCM) on the locomotor, stability, and manipulative motor competencies of preschool children.

Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted over an 8-week period, involving two experimental groups (SG, = 30 and PCM, = 30) and one control group (CG, = 28), with participants attending two intervention sessions per week. A total of 88 5-year-old children participated in the experiment (boys = 48; girls = 40).

Botulinum Therapy for Pain Caused by Spasticity in Advanced Stages of Brain Tumor in Adolescents: A Case Report.

Background: Spasticity is an upper motor neuron syndrome that exacerbates motor paralysis and is rarely associated with pain. This report elucidates the management of drug-resistant pain attributed to an adolescent brain tumor using botulinum therapy.

Case Presentation: A 15-year-old female patient experienced dizziness, developed muscle weakness in her upper extremities, and was diagnosed with diffuse glioblastoma of the pons.

Effect of low-dose radiation pre-irradiation on postoperative local chest wall recurrence of breast cancer-A retrospective study.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the efficacy and safety of low-dose radiotherapy (LDR) for postoperative local chest wall recurrence of breast cancer.

Methods: The records of 52 patients with postoperative local chest wall recurrent breast cancer treated at our cancer center from January 2019 to December 2022. The t-test was used to compare the means of the LDR group and non LDR group.

Strategies to prevent postoperative delirium: a comprehensive evaluation of anesthesia selection and drug intervention.

Postoperative delirium (POD) represents a common neurological complication encountered predominantly among the elderly cohort undergoing surgical intervention for hip fractures. This phenomenon, particularly commonplace in geriatric populations with heightened preoperative risk profiles, pronounced comorbidities, and later stages of lifespan, poses complex clinical challenges. The impact of perioperative pharmacological interventions and anesthetic strategies on POD's emergence cannot be understated, as it may profoundly affect the length of hospital stays, rehabilitation milestones, and the overall mortality hazard.

Case report: Clinical and genetic characterization of a novel variant causing pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy, developmental delay, and intellectual disability in two siblings.

Background: Pathogenic variants in are associated with pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy (PDE), a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by epileptic seizures, unresponsiveness to standard antiseizure medications (ASM), and a response only to pyridoxine. Here, we report two patients (from a consanguineous family) with neonatal seizures and developmental delay.

Background: Transarterial therapy (TAT), bevacizumab (Bev), and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have individually exhibited efficacy in treating advanced-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of the combination of these three treatments as a neoadjuvant modality in patients with locally advanced HCC.

Tacrolimus to belatacept conversion in proteinuric kidney transplant recipients.

Background: Proteinuria is associated with worse allograft outcomes in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) and treatment strategies are limited. We examined the outcomes of calcineurin inhibitor (CNI) to belatacept conversion in proteinuric KTRs.

Methods: In a pilot phase II single-arm multicenter prospective trial, we recruited adult KTRs >6 months post-kidney transplantation with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) ≥30 ml/min/1.

Association between somatic microsatellite instability, hypermutation status, and specific T cell subsets in colorectal cancer tumors.

Background: Microsatellite instability-high (MSI-high) tumors comprise ~15% of sporadic colorectal cancers (CRC) and are associated with elevated T cell infiltration. However, the universality of this response across T cell subtypes with distinct functions is unknown.

Methods: Including 1,236 CRC tumors from three observational studies, we conducted T cell profiling using a customized 9-plex (CD3, CD4, CD8, CD45RA, CD45RO, FOXP3, KRT, MKI67, and DAPI) multispectral immunofluorescence assay.

Case report: Detecting giant cell arteritis in [Ga]Ga-DOTA-Siglec-9-PET/CT.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic utility of [Ga]Ga-DOTA-Siglec-9 positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET/CT) in assessing disease activity in a patient experiencing a relapse of giant cell arteritis (GCA).

SQLE-mediated squalene metabolism promotes tumor immune evasion in pancreatic cancer.

Background: Squalene epoxidase (SQLE) is a key enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis and has been shown to negatively affect tumor immunity and is associated with poor outcomes of immunotherapy in various cancers. While most research in this area has focused on the impact of cholesterol on immune functions, the influence of SQLE-mediated squalene metabolism within the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) remains unexplored.

Methods: We established an immune-competent mouse model (C57BL/6) bearing mouse pancreatic cancer xenografts (KPC cells) with or without stable SQLE-knockdown (SQLE-KD) to evaluate the impact of SQLE-mediated metabolism on pancreatic cancer growth and immune functions.

Efficacy and safety of chimeric antigen receptor T cells targeting BCMA and GPRC5D in relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma.

Background: Clinical studies have demonstrated the high efficacy of using chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cells targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA) and orphan G protein-coupled receptor, class C group 5 member D (GPRC5D) to treat relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). In this study, we compared the efficacy and safety of BCMA CAR-T-cell therapy (BCMA CAR-T) and GPRC5D CAR T-cell therapy (GPRC5D CAR-T) in patients with RRMM.

Methods: We retrieved and included eligible clinical trials of BCMA or GPRC5D CAR-T for RRMM patients.
