Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and safety of transvaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (vNOTES) for performing adnexectomy and high uterosacral ligament suspension (HUSLS) after vaginal hysterectomy (VH) under epidural anesthesia.
Method: This was a retrospective case series of 42 women who underwent VH for stage II or greater apical prolapse according to pelvic organ prolapse quantification (POP-Q); however, adnexectomy could not performed and replace the vNOTES technique. The procedure continued with vNOTES adnexectomy and bilateral HUSLS under epidural anesthesia.

Background: Chronic-kidney-disease (CKD) is prevalent among adults undergoing noncardiac surgery, with surgery-related factors potentially worsening CKD or triggering acute kidney injury (AKI). We hypothesized that CKD patients experience more kidney function decline within one to two years post-surgery than those without CKD, particularly if they develop AKI.
Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study, including noncardiac surgery patients with documented creatinine preoperative and between 1 and 2 years after surgery.

Background: Acromiohumeral interval (AHI) reversibility is used to evaluate whether superior humeral migration is fixed or flexible in patients with massive rotator cuff tears (MRCTs). AHI reversibility is measured as the difference in the AHI observed between standard and stress radiography. However, factors affecting AHI reversibility have not been studied in the existing literature.

Purpose: Subchondral bone marrow lesions (BMLs) are present in a wide range of pathologies with different prognoses. Thus, a careful diagnosis is mandatory to address them with the proper treatment. The aim of this review was to examine BMLs aetiology and their relationship with biomechanical and biological factors, to identify BMLs and help clinicians to properly recognize and treat each of these common alterations.

Intracranial solitary fibrous tumors (SFTs) and hemangiopericytomas (HPCs) are rare, aggressive tumors typically found along the dural sinuses. Despite their aggressive nature, complete surgical resection remains the most significant factor in reducing recurrence and improving survival. Here, we present the case of a 32-year-old male patient who presented with a new-onset headache and vertigo.

Obesity is one of the most common chronic diseases seen in children and adolescents. This study aims to examine the impact of obesity on body composition, assessed by sonographic and anthropometric measurements, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in adolescents.Anthropometric measurements, sonographic measurements of subcutaneous fat, quadriceps muscle, Achilles tendon thickness, and HRQoL were performed in children between 12-18 years of age.

Aim: Despite the clinical importance and significant social burden of neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) in dementia, the underlying neurobiological mechanism remains poorly understood. Recently, neuroimaging-derived brain-age estimation by machine-learning analysis has shown promise as an individual-level biomarker. We investigated the relationship between NPS and brain-age in amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and early dementia.

Keratoconus (KC) is a progressive corneal disorder resulting in severe visual impairment. We aimed to determine the prevalence and corneal tomographic characteristics of KC and keratoconus suspect (KCS) in a population-based study, and to construct discrimination models with or without corneal tomography. A total of 1,544 eyes (822 participants aged ≥35 years) were evaluated using data from the Yamagata Study (2015-2017).

Intercellular mitochondria transfer is an evolutionarily conserved process in which one cell delivers some of their mitochondria to another cell in the absence of cell division. This process has diverse functions depending on the cell types involved and physiological or disease context. Although mitochondria transfer was first shown to provide metabolic support to acceptor cells, recent studies have revealed diverse functions of mitochondria transfer, including, but not limited to, the maintenance of mitochondria quality of the donor cell and the regulation of tissue homeostasis and remodelling.

The present paper was designed to analyze the dimensions of such important bony structures and surgical landmarks, which are used by many clinicians in many surgical interventions, in dry skull, cadaver, and healthy subjects on computed tomography (CT) images, and to determine whether there is a significant difference between these methods, and to obtain reference values from 3 different methods. Eight cadavers and 16 dry skulls and 100 three-dimensional (3D) CT images were studied. Necessary permissions for the study were obtained from Ethics Comittee.

Background: The prevalence of meningococcal carriage and serogroup distribution is crucial for assessing the epidemiology of invasive meningococcal disease, forecasting outbreaks and formulating potential immunization strategies. Following the meningococcal carriage studies conducted in Turkey in 2016 and 2018, we planned to re-evaluate meningococcal carriage in children, adolescents and young adults during the COVID-19 pandemic period.
Methods: In the MENINGO-CARR-3 study, we collected nasopharyngeal samples from 1585 participants 0-24 years of age, across 9 different centers in Turkey.

Mitochondrial complex I transfers electrons from NADH (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) to ubiquinone, facilitating ATP synthesis via a proton gradient. Complex I defects are common among the mitochondrial diseases, especially in childhood. , located in complex I's transmembrane domain, is not directly involved in catalytic activity, but the mutations are associated with Leigh syndrome and complex I defects.

This study aimed to longitudinally examine which lifestyle factors are associated with depressive symptoms in a large cohort of Japanese participants stratified by sex.
Methods: Among 9087 office and community-based residents who attended a health measurement course at the Osaka Medical Center for Health Science and Promotion between 2001 and 2002, 6629 individuals (3962 men and 2667 women) without prior depressive symptoms were followed until the end of March 2012 to observe the associations between lifestyle factors and the development of new depressive symptoms.

Throughout history, epidemics of infections and the response of human societies to contain them expose and interact with disparities in health, economic, political, environmental and societal systems. Works of literature such as the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare serve as witnesses to these interactions. The COVID-19 pandemic was the biggest recent global public health crisis, and its toll had surpassed 7 million deaths worldwide as of late December 2024, among which 1.
