Background: Renal colic is characterized by severe pain that is highly disabling. Gabapentin, an antiepileptic medication, is often recommended as a first-line therapy for neuropathic pain. However, its effectiveness in managing somatic pain, which is defined as the result of activity by pain receptors in the deep tissues, such as renal colic pain, is not as well-established.

Background And Objectives: Direct-acting antiviral (DAA) agents are now widely used to treat patients with hepatitis C infection (HCV) and effectively increase their sustained virologic response (SVR). However, the literature seems to lack or deficient evidence of DAA efficacy in more complicated patients, especially those with HCV reinfection after liver transplantation (LT) or liver-kidney (hepatorenal) transplantation (LKT). This study aimed to retrospectively evaluate the effectiveness of two different DAA regimens in LT and LKT patients with HCV reinfection.

  • This study aimed to evaluate a new classification system for chronic venous obstruction (CVO) patients who have undergone successful medical procedures across 13 vascular centers from 2015 to 2019.
  • Researchers analyzed the data of 1,033 CVO patients, classifying them into five categories based on the severity and location of their condition, and assessed stent deployment and complications alongside follow-up outcomes.
  • Results showed that primary patency rates varied significantly among the classifications, with lower rates indicating more severe CVO, and identified key predictors of patency loss such as CVO type and the total number of stents used, suggesting the need for further validation of this classification system in future research.

  • Using data from a multicenter study with 2,418 patients, researchers found that those who received adequate treatment within 24 hours had a lower 28-day mortality rate (32.8%) compared to those who were inadequately treated (40%).
  • The study concluded that inadequate antibiotic therapy within 24 hours contributes significantly to 28-day mortality, indicating that quicker treatment could greatly improve patient outcomes in cases of HA-BSI.

Aims: Anxiety often coexists with migraine, and both conditions share a commonality in oxidative/nitrosative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction contributing to their pathogenesis. β-Sitosterol, a plant sterol, has shown promise in mitigating oxidative/nitrosative stress, enhancing mitochondrial function, and exerting neuroprotective effects. In this study, we investigated the impact of β-sitosterol on migraine-associated anxiety and whether this effect was associated with alleviation of oxidative/nitrosative stress and improvement in mitochondrial function.
