The Kabi International Growth Study (KIGS) was first established in 1987 and is the largest pharmaco-epidemiological study of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH). KIGS is aimed at evaluating long-term safety and treatment outcomes in pediatric subjects who received Genotropin rhGH therapy (Pfizer, New York, NY, USA) as prescribed by physicians in real-world clinical practice settings. KIGS data have been used to answer multiple research questions related to growth, growth prediction, and growth hormone treatment, leading to the publication of 129 peer-reviewed manuscripts and 24 biannual reports, outcomes from 10 expert meetings, and 3 books.

Cognitive impairment is a common phenotype of neurodevelopmental disorders, but how these deficits arise remains elusive. Determining the onset of discrete cognitive capabilities facilitates studies in probing mechanisms underlying their emergence. The present study analyzed the emergence of contextual fear memory persistence (7-day memory retention) and remote memory (30-day memory retention).

Objectives: To determine changes in case rates of youth onset type 2 diabetes in the three years following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: A single-center, retrospective medical record review was conducted for patients newly diagnosed with T2D between 3/1/18 and 2/28/23 at a pediatric tertiary care center. The number of patients referred to CHLA with a T2D diagnosis date between 3/1/2020 and 2/28/2023 was compared to historical rates between 3/1/2018 and 2/29/2020.

Background: Tadalafil is a long-acting phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor (PDE-5i) indicated for erectile dysfunction (ED).
Hypothesis: Our hypothesis was that tadalafil will reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE: composite of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, coronary revascularization, unstable angina, heart failure, stroke) and all-cause death in men with ED.
Methods: A retrospective observational cohort study was conducted in a large US commercial insurance claims database in men with a diagnosis of ED without prior MACE within 1 year.

Background: Infants with prematurity, low birthweight, and medical comorbidities are at high risk for developmental delays and neurodevelopmental disabilities and require close monitoring. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, high-risk infant follow-up (HRIF) programs have adapted to perform developmental assessments via telehealth.
Objectives: Describe the referral rates to initiate, continue, or increase/add early intervention (EI) therapies based on in-person use of the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, 4th Edition (BSID-IV) or telehealth use of the Developmental Assessment in Young Children, 2nd Edition (DAYC-2).

The SEL1L-HRD1 protein complex represents the most conserved branch of endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-associated degradation (ERAD). Despite recent advances in both mouse models and humans, in vivo evidence for the importance of SEL1L in the ERAD complex formation and its (patho-)physiological relevance in mammals remains limited. Here we report that SEL1L variant p.

Background: Vitamin D (Vit D) deficiency has been linked to symptoms of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), yet little is known about Vit D supplementation as a treatment for sexual dysfunction (SDy) in women with PCOS.
Aim: To explore the implications of serum total 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) and bioavailable 25[OH]D (bio-25[OH]D) status and replacement on women with PCOS and SDy.
Methods: Reproductive-age women with PCOS who were not desiring fertility were eligible provided that they also had SDy, as assessed by the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), and were without severe depression, as evaluated by the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II).

We describe congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) due to 21-hydroxylase deficiency, which is the most common primary adrenal insufficiency in children and adolescents. In this comprehensive review of CAH, we describe presentations at different life stages depending on disease severity. CAH is characterized by androgen excess secondary to impaired steroidogenesis in the adrenal glands.

Objective: We aimed to determine whether exposure to severe maternal preeclampsia (PE) in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants is associated with hypertrophic cardiac changes and altered hemodynamics.
Study Design: Case-control study of VLBW infants born at Los Angeles General Medical Center from May 2015 to August 2023, who had an echocardiogram within the first 7 days of life. Cases were infants exposed to maternal PE and controls were infants not exposed to maternal PE matched by birth weight (BW) 1:1.

Accurate and timely interpretation of microcytic anemia can be diagnostically challenging in the primary care setting. We sought to develop a novel model for distinguishing iron-deficiency anemia from thalassemia trait in the modern pediatric population. Demographic history and red blood cell indices were retrospectively characterized for 76 children referred to our pediatric hematology clinic for evaluation of microcytic anemia.
